NB connect error 1460

Post by avielfadida » 2014-04-19 18:21

Hello everyone, after diagnostics i get:
Test: Test local connect
Connecting to TCP/IP address in MX records for local domain domain numerator.noip.me...
Trying to connect to host mail-numerator.noip.me...
Trying to connect to TCP/IP address 84.109.152.112 on port 25.
Received: 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 84.109.152.112 (84.109.152.112:25), NB connect error 1460.
Connected successfully.
So i found this link: https://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_mes ... error_1460

And now i get:
Test: Test local connect
Connecting to TCP/IP address in MX records for local domain domain numerator.noip.me...
Trying to connect to host mail-numerator.noip.me...
Trying to connect to TCP/IP address 84.109.152.112 on port 25.
ERROR: It was not possible to connect.
ERROR: Was not able to open connection.

As you found out that 1st error was AV alerting you that it could not connect (Bad idea to have transparent AV on a server btw). Once you disabled your AV then you find you still can not connect. AV was not stopping you, it was telling you it could not connect. So same issue. Odds are your ISP is blocking outbound port 25. You can call your ISP to confirm or test with telnet.

Thank you, Is there a way i can check if my ISP smtp server require authentication, and most important what settings do i have to change?, I mean now when I'm using the relay.

Edit:
Because the connection to the ISP smtp server is successful I'm sure that they don't require authentication but I still getting:
ERROR: It was not possible to connect.
ERROR: Was not able to open connection.

You need to be able to connect in order to authenticate.. I'd contact your ISP but odds are they block outbound port 25. It is almost futile to try & run mail server unless you have specific minimum requirements including static IP address (often requires business class account & purchasing IP's).

What are my possibilities, Is there a way to set up the SMTP Relayer?

Yes of course IF you can use a port that is blocked but normally 587 or 465 (SSL) works as they are rarely blocked. But those don't work for public mail without a relayer. By time you pay a relayer you might as well pay to host your mail or get a better connection with no blocks. Not sure if there are any free relayers without big restrictions. If you are willing to pay you'll find some good ones.

When you say that 587/465 won't work for public mail, Thats mean that i will only be able to send and receive mail on the LAN?

Essentially yes. Unless you use a relayer smarthost. That is because every standard mail server listens for mail on port 25. If you try to send on a port besides 25 they can't be expected to accept it. Granted many support LOCAL USERS sending to them on 587/465 & others it does not mean they will accept public (non local, unauthenticated) mail. So yes if you intend on sending mail to outside world you need to be able to sen and receive SMTP on port 25 unless you use a relayer that does it for you.

You need port 25 in and out open OR you need to use a smarthost relayer.

Can you help me with the settings of this smarthost relayer, is this smarthost relayer is my ISP (smtp.012.net.il)?

To set it in hmail you go to settings -> protocols -> SMTP then delivery of email tab. Fill in everything in SMTP Relayer section just like you would an email program like thunderbird or outlook. Of course you need a relayer smart host that will accept & deliver your mail for you or pointless.

Does the outbound port 25 test connect to hmailserver.com work (You don't show all of the diagnostics, so we can't really tell)

IFF (in maths speak this is IF and ONLY IF the only error you get in the diagnostics is the one that you post, this is LIKELY not fatal, and can be gotten around (if you NEED TO) by adding an entry to your C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

We talked on IRC yesterday & port 25 is blocked by ISP. There is no FIX for this besides getting internet without port 25 blocked or sign up for a relayer to relay for you.
