Webmail has message but Thunderbird loses it

Postby nurimaso » 2010-06-21 09:11

Hi,
I detected several times that e-mail arrives to the server, because I read them through webmail, but when I read them with Thunderbird some messages dissapeared. I find them to main folder, spam folder and trash folder, but those e-mails dessapeared. They get lost from the server to Thunderbird.
Someone could help me to solve this problem?
Thank you

Do you connect to hMailserver with Thunderbird on IMAP?
Is it possible that are they deleted either by the web mail or Thunderbird as part of a purge process?
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Do you have any rules/filters setup in thunderbird. Have you selected "trust spam assassin headers" in thunderbird?
If at first you don't succeed, bomb disposal probably isn't for you! ヅ

Is mail delivered directly to thunderbird correctly when you do not access the account with webmail?

I don't know. I only know that some mails that arrived to the server and that I read previously through webmail (Squirrel) desappeared completelly. But only some of them, no all the list. So I don't understand why.

Track the messages in the hmail logs.. From the time it was delivered to the user box to when it was read in squirrel to when you try in tbird. The message has to go SOMEWHERE & the logs may be unruly but they are your friend when tracking down message flow from start to finish & odds are you'll see where the messages went.

post your logs into this app I created, it will help you see what's going on

Yep please.

Enable all but IMAP logging and wait for it to happen again, and then post the logs for when the message was viewed in Squirrelmail and then downloaded into Thunderbird.

post say 2 minutes each side (before and after).

Or use Doom's log analyser yourself. That should help show what's going on...

Is "leave on server" option enabled in Thunderbird?

You mix two different account types. If you don't understand how they work, you will have problems.

POP3 allows access only to your INBOX folder.

IMAP can work with multiple folders. If your IMAP client (squirrel something) moves email from INBOX to other folder, POP3 client (Thunderbird) won't be able to see it. If POP3 client downloads emails from server without keeping them, IMAP client won't see downloaded emails.

In some setups INBOX folder is not same thing as mailbox used by POP3 server. Only in these setups you can see emails in INBOX and can't download them to your POP3 account. hMailServer setup is different. If you see emails in INBOX, your POP3 client can download them.

OK

I know what you are explaining, but, I have, for example 5 e-mails in webmail INBOX, I don't touch them or I read some but i didn't move them to another folder. Last time I looked webmail (and reloaded page) e-mails where there, in INBOX. Then I read with Thunderbird an only some of them are downloaded. I detected this in some cases I don't know how many e-mails I lost-

What I don't understand is why some e-mails arrive and others no

Could you connect to your pop3 server with telnet and issue stat and list commands?

Code: Select all

telnet mail.example.org 110
... server's greeting
user your-user@example.org
... some response
pass your-password
... some response
stat
... some response (show it)
list
... some response (show it)
quit
... connection closed

Then connect to imap server and issue 'select inbox' command.

Code: Select all

telnet mail.example.org 143
... greeting
A01 login your-user@example.org your-password
... some response ...
A02 select INBOX
... some response (show it)
A03 logout
... connection closed
