Add Date Header if None Exists

Post by PeterK2003 » 2009-07-24 14:44

I get a decent amount of mail(mostly SPAM but some legit stuff) that has no date header. This causes me grief when sorting by date in both Thunderbird and Roundcube. Could a feature be implemented that if a message lacks the date field the server adds one with the date and time that the message was received by the server? Or is there a better way to handle this?

Thanks,
~Peter

Pretty easily done with a script.

see this for an example - http://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewto ... te+#p48185
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

if that works that would satisfy my needs but it would sorta be nice if it was just a check box in admin console.

Thanks!

Greylisting is your friend.

Any moronic spammer script that forgets to put in a date header will also fail greylisting.

I've yet to see any spam through without a date header. My average statistics over the last few months are:
3% legit email
96% rejected spam
1% spam that gets through the various checks
0% legit email rejected
greylisting enabled
catchall enabled
several domains targeted for random address spam

nearly 100% of my spam is caught but I do have some legit messages that don't have date header.

The script trick posted above seems to work so i am satisfied with that.
