Hi,
Within Thunderbird, it does repeatedly prompt for password below. What is the problem in my hMailserver setup?

Please enable all logging in hmailserver, and show all logs created when you try to connect
My GUESS is that you have username in the form 'account' and not in the form 'account@example.com' in your Thunderbird settings

i don't know. there are 10 years old posts in Mozilla and other forums about this behaviour.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_not_ ... hunderbird KB page is updated in November telling aboıut various things but no one applies in our cases.
we never had this issue (+100 TB installations) till 60.x updates.
all reverted back to 52.9.1 and autoupdate switched off for now.

Re: Problem to setup
If there is no port forwarding then only lan email clients can connect (assuming windows firewall allows). So:
Is the email client on the lan?If so why are you trying to connect using the fqdn? By doing so you need to ensure your router and internal dns is setup to recognise the internal address (usually the server is referred to by the internal server address or name)
If the email client is external to the lan then you will need the port forwarding on your router.

Re: Problem to setup
Should I use 587 or 465 (instead of 25) to SMTP?
Re: Problem to setup
587 is best for IMAP-Clients like Thunderbird (StartTLS) wihle 465 (SSL/TLS) works best for MS-Outlook and Windows Mail App or any other Windows
Crypting accessing Email Client (like EMClient or Mailbird for example).
If your use Outlook/MailApp/ect and Thunderbird, your should enable both. 587 set to STARTTLS and 465 set to SSL/TLS

Re: Problem to setup
If I use Thunderbird (and suppose to use 587), I should enable TCP port on 587, right?
Re: Problem to setup
Of cause!
Abd you need it both ways (InBound and OutBound)
For example: If you only enable InBound, Client Apps can connect but no payload bytes from the server side will reach the connected client.
So, to ha a real open port, make sure its InBound 587 and OutBound 587
The same goes for Port 25/143 and any other port you want to open.

Re: Problem to setup
My thing Dravion, is that I think that the certificate they are using isn't working correctly, and I was trying to point them to get hMailserver working without a certificate to see if that fixed the issue in the original post.

Re: Problem to setup
Yeah, there is indeed a Problem with the certificate.
Its regarding the Common Names, which only covers .domain.com and www.domain.com but not imap.domain.com and smtp.domain.com
However, it will work but its will raise SSL Warnings in Thunderbird regarding the Common Name Problem.
Re: Problem to setup
Thanks to all.
Dravion,
Does it mean there should be 2 separate certificates, respectively for imap.domain.com and smtp.domain.com?
Including the certificate for the below, there would be 3 certificates?

Re: Problem to setup
Yes, this would be the easiest way.
The second option is, your Cert Providers Shop allows the combination of smtp.domain.com and imap.domain.com. this would result in 1 Single cert which would cover both smtp and imap.
Re: Problem to setup
Suppose I would get certificate, would it then be fine to use the below ports?
0.0.0.0 / 465 / SMTP - SSL/TLS Cert: xxxxxxxx.com
0.0.0.0 / 993 / IMAP - SSL/TLS Cert: xxxxxxxx.com
0.0.0.0 / 995 / POP3 - SSL/TLS Cert: xxxxxxxx.com
0.0.0.0 / 465 / SMTP - SSL/TLS Cert: xxxxxxxx.com
0.0.0.0 / 993 / IMAP - SSL/TLS Cert: xxxxxxxx.com
0.0.0.0 / 995 / POP3 - SSL/TLS Cert: xxxxxxxx.com
Re: Problem to setup
Youre on the right track, but there are some small pitfalls with this.
Thunderbird for example will not work with this because it doesnt like Port 993 SSL/TLS and will raise Timeout or Setting
Error messages at Account Setup step and wont let you finish the Account setup Wizzard. There are tricks to work arround this, but
its not the real deal. To avoid trouble, just enable Port 587 as well and set it to "STARTTLS required" and Port 143 "STARTTLS Required",
this will fit the bill.
For MS-Outlook (Office) and Windows 10 Mail App, use allways Port 465 and Port 993 or simply let it autodetect the defaults and you
are good to go.
You also need to setup Port 25 (hMailServers port to the Internet to exchange Messages amond diffrent Internet Emailserver).
This should be set to "STARTTLS optional" and no authentication.
Recommended settings start
#hMailServer port to the World
Port: 25 -> Internet Emailexchange (SMTP with "STARTTLS optional" and NO AUTH)
#hMailServer ports to communicate with your MailApps only
Port: 587 -> Your Office Network, Thunderbird and other MailApps (SMTP with STARTTLS)
Port: 465 -> Your Office Network, Thunderbird and other MailApps (SMTP with SSL/TLS)
Port: 143 -> Your Office Network, Thunderbird and other MailApps (IMAP with STARTTLS)
Port: 993 -> Your Office Network, Outlook and other MailApps (IMAP with SSL/TLS)
Port: 995 -> Your Office Network, Outlook and other MailApps (POP3 with SSL/TLS)
Recommended settings end
Re: Problem to setup
I bought relevant imap and smtp certificates and have applied them like
but I get below problem. Why?Re: Problem to setup
This is a SMTP only Problem
As mentionef before, Thunderbird likes SMTP Port 587 with STARTSSL required and dont öike SSL/TLS at Account Confing.
If you have enabled STARTTLS 587, edit your Tunderbird SMTP Account settings.
If this doesnt help, remove the complete Thunferbird account in Thunderbird AND take a look at the SMTP Serverlist in Thunderbird and delete your hMailServer SMTP Settings additionally.
The restart Thunderbird again and at a news Account and make sure you use SMTP 587 STARTTLS required and IMAP Port 143 STARTTLS
requirrd (if you setup hMailServer correctly, Thunderbird will this settings automatically and you dont have to to edit the settings).

I followed your advice and any advice to this?
Re: Problem to setup
Thadts the SSL-Warning mentioned earlier.
Your SSL-Certificate covers only www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com
in the Common Name Subject Details. You can simply confirm thats ok, but this warning will be shown on any new Account Setup in Thunderbird and Outlook until you purchase 2.x new Certificates
which covers smtp.yourdomain.com and a second certificate wich covers imap.yourdomain.com.
If you have purchased both certificates, you need to
load and aasign it it to smtp and imap in hMaiL Admin and the Warnings will not be shown anymore.

And do the diagnostic report that I requested and post the results in text form please.

This address is also behind searchhouselive.com which I presume is where you have a website hosted.
