hMail - content migration - another vm/hmail version/db

Post by jr3151006 » 2014-11-03 14:53

Hi,

does someone have an idea to share on how to migrate the mailbox contents from one server to another? I was reading some posts/articles here talking about to migrate from server1 to server2 but keeping the same version of Hmail and Database software also.

In our case, we are consolidating 02 servers in a new one; the server2 have 02 domains with 6 and 3 mailbox respectively and the server1 has 01 domain with 11 mailboxes. All servers are Windows and we have some users using Roundcube for webmail, as another uses iPhone, Android and Outlook - most of them obviously using IMAP connection.

>>> Here there is someone experienced with similar situation?

I´m asking since even using Outlook to connect to old server and new server at the same time and then moving the contents, when the user open again his Outlook it then downloads everything again! That behavior is because the .PST from Outlook tracks the ID of messages already downloaded but event the content has been the same, the 'ID' is different in the new server and then the Outlook detected it as a new msg and then download again.

>>> Somes ideas or should I buy a specific software to migrate IMAP servers?

Outlook UID sounds like IMAP
Downloading all mail again seems like POP3

Easiest by far is to:-
- recreate domains and accounts on new server
- connect to both old server and new server with a mail client via IMAP, and drag all mail and folders to the new server
- change MX records to point to New server
- stop old server hMailserver service (while you test - don't delete until you are sure)
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Hi mattg,

tks for reply. I already performed that actions. Since some users are externals, we don't have access to change Outlook settings to remove 'Leave a msg on the server for X days'.

I´m already inclined to tools like this:
http://www.athensfbc.com/imap_tools/
http://migrationtool.sourceforge.net/

That tool cannot preserve the msg flags but copy the content itself fine. I´m asking the dev team about that behavior. All msgs are appearing on the new server as 'new' and 'non-read'
