very quickly I would recommend you hit the IP range DEFAULT button. Currently anyone can send email from your server.

AND

delete the MX record you have for addable.net which says

mail.addable.net IN MX preference: 10 exchange: addable.net

you have another one which is correct.

AND

delete the MX record you have for addable.co.uk which says

mail.addable.co.uk IN MX preference: 10 exchange: addable.net

you have another one which is correct.

then in your dns for addable.net setup an SPF TXT record which says

addable.net TXT v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all

and in dns for addable.co.uk setup and SPF TXT record which says

addable.co.uk TXT v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all

AND

yes those changes so far look good

How do i add that i have:

Name:
Type: SPF
Content:
TTL:
Prio:

I have tried the ip address in Content and addable.net TXT v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all
but it says it must be a valid SPF Rule.

some dns server have type SPF, many only have type TXT

if your dns has both type SPF and type TXT then setup two in each

addabale.net SPF v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all
addabale.net TXT v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all

AND

addabale.co.uk SPF v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all
addabale.co.uk TXT v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all

note content is the "v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all" portion

record type is SPF and/or TXT
if your dns only has type SPF then just use that type but the content is same in all cases.

I was able to add the text by just putting the v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all in, but still if i try to put it in with the SPF, it doesnt work.. i tried:
v=spf1 ip4:81.142.246.241 -all
ip4:81.142.246.241 -all
81.142.246.241

Just says "content: Must be a valid SPF rule"

take out the bind to address on your advanced tab unless you have more than one IP address at that server in which case try your public IP address for hmailserver.

Error Log (It says about not accepting unsolicited emails - but how do i stop this?)
that is just an informational message. It doesn't mean your mail has been rejected. Lots of servers say that. I cannot see any errors in that log.

220 is not an error code

it normally mean <domain> Service ready. i.e. go ahead and send us something.

see http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1893.txt or other online lists of what smtp response codes mean.

they are not exact but the levels 2, 3, 4, 5 etc are a decent guide with 5.x.x meaning some kind of real error or rejection

anyhow, your dns is cleaned up and the spf records should help stop your domains from being spoofed and make it easy for gmail etc to consider your mail as coming from authentic source.

only stays in delivery queue until it goes into your inbox at which point delivery queue will be empty. And that happens fast unless your server is busy.

I don't know how often the status numbers a refreshed

Can you try to email lstevens@addable.co.uk? & I sent two from gmail and it increased by two.. so theres something that stopped it even getting processed.

also i just done a dns report with a different website and i got:

Connecting to 81.142.246.241

220 SMTP Connected [702 ms]
EHLO MXTB-PWS3.mxtoolbox.com
250-mail.addable.net
250-SIZE 20480000
250 AUTH LOGIN PLAIN [749 ms]
MAIL FROM: <supertool@mxtoolbox.com>
250 OK [749 ms]
RCPT TO: <test@example.com>
530 SMTP authentication is required. [749 ms]

MXTB-PWS3v2 4930ms

---- That one says 5 which is worse than the 2 lol

mxtoolbox is correct. It says 530 because it doens't know your password and can't login. It tries so that it can warn you if you are an open relay which you aren't now you have hit the DEFAULT button. So 530 error is good in this case.

I have no idea why its not counting processed mail. Maybe Matt or Martin can shed some light on it.

Ok ok ok, created an account admin@addable.net and that works perfectly... would it only be the DNS that can cause that issue then?

Not really.. I don't know why i can't send to any addable.co.uk - I think it may be to do with the DNS but im unsure what is incorrect with those records..

There is no log which is generated..

I am using thunderbird, although i created a new account on hmailserver: admin@addable.net
i connected that - and that is working perfectly...

I removed addable.co.uk from hmailserver - then readded ... yet still same issue, where i cannot
recieve from the other email addresses (publicly).

if there are no log lines, then hmail is not being contacted. Is there a firewall in the way or port redirection that could cause issues? Any AV on the server that might intercept connections?

on the pc you have thunderbird please goto windows command prompt and type in

ipconfig /flushdns

and exit

then switch on hmail debug logging and try again and show logs.

Hello again, sorry i didn't reply last night - had to leave the office.
I have tried that flush dns , the logging actually shows up nothing... no calls or reponses..

I have attached the thunderbird account settings.

It says mail ???

Can you desrcibe the exact steps that you took here...
I removed the email address from thunderbird.. removing email account and outgoing mail server.. then went into the account settings clicked add account..
Put in Email Address: lstevens@addable.co.uk and password, clicked continue. It gives me the config details (But i have to change as it sets up automatically as smtp and imap)

So i click manual config
change incoming server hostname to: mail.addable.net
change outgoing server hostname to: mail.addable.net
incoming port: 143
outgoing port: 25
username from lstevens to lstevens@addable.co.uk

I wanted the steps you took to remove and add the domain in hMailserver, not the account in Thunderbird

Under domain tab i right-clickedd addable.co.uk and clicked remove.
Then i right clicked the domain tab and clicked add and typed domain into general tab.
Then i right clicked accounts and added the lstevens@addable.co.uk again.

right, so

both domains are on your hMailserver
You use the one lot of MX records that work for one domain but not the other when connecting from the same Thunderbird installation, and nothing is logged by hmailserver when you try to log in with one account.

Doesn't seem possible.

Please enable ALL logging

rename any log files with today's name in them

Send an email via Thunderbird from the .net account to the .co.uk account
Send an email via the SAME Thunderbird installation from the .co.uk account to the .net account

Wait until you get an error, or after 30 seconds if you don't get an error, and then post ALL logs created with today's date

I have just purchased another personal email account - paid.. and it seems to work fine - its working with all accounts.. so i think there must be a DNS issue with tomlewismedia.co.uk.

can you try the following. I don't know if it will make a difference but it may.

you have a dns record which says

*.addable.co.uk A 81.142.246.241

delete that record and try again

What do you have in your C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file?

What does that that have to do with your issue??
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

just to note when i send an email from lewis@tomlewismedia.co.uk to lstevens@addable.co.uk the Status seciton in hmailserver doesnt increase te number of processed messages.. and delivery queue stays empty if that means something.

Ah ok thankyou for that.
I have just purchased another personal email account - paid.. and it seems to work fine - its working with all accounts.. so i think there must be a DNS issue with tomlewismedia.co.uk.
But i thought it was happening with all personal emails (as i said it works with gmail and hotmail accounts)
