Any members on that site here? Just curious, wonder a bit how popular the site is. Seems to be an enormous amount of users.

Keywords "facebook" and "spam". Put in your favorite search engine.

Any site that collects personal address books and tries to maintain list of valid addresses is potential spammer.

If you are facebook user, you like to see your friends being spammed. Think of it. thousands or millions of users. millions of confirmed addresses. emails that validate recipients with "please join your friend at some-third-party server". Some years ago there was another similar service. It included monthly verification of emails.

I haven't asked anyone to join the site and haven't entered any friends email address there either. So how am I giving away personal information? I've tagged some of the users on the site as friends, but since those have registered themself and confirmed my tagging, I don't consider that to be "giving away" other peoples personal information.

Then we have different experience about facebook. I got emails from facebook when one friend joined it.

your friends don't get emails from facebook unless you explicity type in their address and/or upload your address book for facebook to invite them.

i've not done either of these things so facebook hasn't "spammed" my friends - surely it's not spamming them if you entered the addresses to invite them in the first place?

so far my experience of facebook has been pretty good - got back in touch with people i've not seen in 12 years

Is it SPAM or an action to enlarge their network?

I mean if you get e-mails about L'oreal, Viagra whatever then it means that they sell the information and it's SPAM but if you receive e-mails saying "someone tagged you; join us" then this is marketing for em and service for it's users...

I haven't asked them to contact me nor gave my permission to use my email address in their marketing materials. It is a spam, unsolicited commercial emails and disguised attempts to verify email addresses. If it quacks like a duck and acts like a duck...

If I am spammed after some person joins facebook, then there is something in their signup forms that forces normal users to submit their personal address books.

Please note that we have different paranoia levels. I want to control who gets my private email addresses.

Yeah in your case u maybe right if none of ur friends didn't give your e-mail away.. once for example I've signed up such friendship network http://www.yonja.com and somehow they did reach to my hotmail contact list; and e-mailed everyone saying I called em, even my X's, beyond spam it was a damn shame experience for me, eventhough nowadays I'm happy with the network
