hMailServer Forum Registration - IP Address Blocked

Postby jeffshead » 2010-07-26 03:19

I have leased the same block of static IP's for several years now.

I got the following message when I tried to register for this forum:

Your IP address is not permitted to register.

Why would my IP address be blocked from registering as a new user on this forum?

Can't a mod see his IP in the forum logs or some special advanced user status screen or something?
If a mod PM's him can he then PM back with less than 5 posts or is it like read-only?

Still get the "You cannot send private messages before you've made 5 posts in the user forum" message. No worries. Only 5 posts needed.

Thanks.

I can login to my existing account with that IP but for some reason I could not register my account with it. I ended up using a proxy to register.

Here's a screenshot of the error I received:

No big deal as long as I can login.

Bill,

Meeechigan you say... I'm flying out your way for a bidness trip next month. Bound to be cooler there, than it is here on the East coast.

Aussie slang I guess.

New car drivers here get 'L' plates, literally for 'learner'. So if someone is new to a job, or fairly inexperienced, they may get 'L' plates too.

And that's me, just a learner, not a real tech. (Actually I'm a manager / business owner type who just does this IT stuff for fun in my spare time).

I'm in the regional city of Toowoomba, Queensland today. Misty, cloudy, wet, cold and miserable... Interestingly different than what is normal at home. Give me the dry heat and endless sunshine any time.

LOL OK I take that back, I want L plates for my tricycle! Yeah never heard of L plates but learner permit though, like before you get real license to drive where mommy & daddy get to supervise, holding on & praying if they do that sorta thing.

Well with over 4000 posts you are likely past yer L permit I'd say. Lose yer training wheelz soon I s'pos. hehe

WOW Toowoomba has gotta be one of the funniest sounding names for a place I've seen! Figure you'd like Arizona I imagine then. Spent 2 weeks there during monsoon season & was still dry and even with the heat it was comfortable for the most part. Unlike here when you get high humidity & it feels like you're wearing a water suit. Tis why days like today (well yesterday now that it's 2am) are welcome.

Well given that your IP is not on the blocked IP list. Martin will have to check to see if their is a specific registration ban list.

A bit off topic, but hey this is the off-topic area...
Bill48105 wrote:WOW Toowoomba has gotta be one of the funniest sounding names for a place I've seen!

Home is Goondiwindi - said 'Gun Da Windy'. Toowoomba is said 'Two woom ba' where the 'woom' starts like 'wood'

Nearby we have Boggabilla, Billa Billa, Toobeah (said 'Two Beer'), Meandarra (said "Me an' Darra"), Moree (said 'More Ree') and many, many others.
'White Fella' interpretations of what the local Aboriginals where thought to have called the place. Apparently Goondiwindi means 'meeting place of the birds'...

Yeah, I reckon I'd like Arizona.

Yupper, ramblin on about nothing in off-topic area seems acceptable so we run with it. :D

Ahh ok so they are all funny sounding names to me cuz they aren't really English in origin, makes sense. Guess I should brush up on my Australia & Aborigine history a bit. Ok I admit, a lot.

Cheers

google maps comes up with Menai, Woronora, Woronora Heights, Bonnet Bay or Illawong , none of these seem unoriginal...

Ok I give up.

Bangor is a city or possible a town in Wales, the suburb next to it is called Menai. I live in Bangor and the suburb next to me is .... Menai. What I was getting at was the lack of originality.
