End of july so there's some time left. I moved not long ago, but due to some policy-changes on the company offering me the hosting I have to move again. I'm actively looking for some paid-for alternative since that reduces the risk of me having to spend time moving stuff over and over again. :)

I could probably manage having a standard web account, but I need a place where I can run hMailServer.com for my email... :)

I have used these in the past, they were very good http://www.ucvhost.com/VPS/EntryLevelVp ... elVps.aspx depends how much you are willing to pay a month and your bandwidth needs tbh
If at first you don't succeed, bomb disposal probably isn't for you! ヅ

What kind of resources you use? I run my own physical servers at a co-lo nearby & they do managed servers too. They're called Online Tech & for the 2 years I've been there they've been superb.

I know some someone who worked at The Planet & then Host Gator before moving on to CPanel & guess The Planet in particular is supposed to be good with Host Gator being cheaper resold Planet service.

I take it your current hosting is donated & they're pulling rug out from under you by changing the rules on ya? That stinks.

Not possible to run servers at your location effectively?

I'd offer help, but my upload is limited at this time.

Anyone out there running their own servers, who can help out?

At the moment I'm using roughly 130GB of data per month. I expect the bandwidth to decrease quite a bit though. I've gotten the Swedish University Network to do mirroring of hMailServer (http://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pc/mail/hmailserver/). This will soon be the primary download location for files older than 24 hours (they mirror once every day).

As for disk space, the VPS I'm currently using is using 12GB. My files are roughly 5GB and the rest is operating system stuff.

Also, since the main purpose is for me to be able to run the latest hMailServer versions, it helps if the VPS can run Windows. :)

Bill48105, the current VPS was offered to an employee at a hosting company. His hosting company let him run his own VPS'es for free. That has changed which is why I'm moving...

WOWZA that's some transfer. What is your upload speed now? Saw in old post mention of 1mbit, is that the case? Looks like you need 512kbit/s min to keep up with your monthly transfer. (Well more like 416kbit but roundin up a bit). I'd offer up a slot in my rack but don't have any available boxes powerful enough to run what you need. I have 10mbit up/down multi-redundant connection & physical space but figure the forums alone must need some major power/ram to be able to keep up although I'd imagine running hmail mail server & actual site would be piece of cake.

Yeah the mirror should help a lot. Can't the old 4.4.4 stuff be hosted on sourceforge cuz it's open source? Does google code require it to be open? Sorry, thinking out loud here. :D

LOL yeah I'd imagine you want Windows-based hosting.. :D

Ahh bummer. All good things come to an end, eh? Especially when you're doing 130GB transfer per month. lol

If you try to download a release older than 2 days, you'll now download it from Sunet. Will see how this affect the traffic the next few days.

I don't think 130GB of transfer/month is that much. Sure, it's a lot of data but I think it's pretty normal for a web site with this type of forum. There's a lot of search-engine bots which wades through the forum for instance. Even if 512kbit/sec would be enough to transfer130GB/month (I haven't calculated) I think that's too little to make the site 'snappy' - the traffic varies over the day.

Oh yeah well lots of sites transfer way more than 130GB no doubt but in scope of things, 130GB is a lot in terms of you'd have to transmit non stop @ just under 512kbit/s every minute of every day to reach that in a month. So in that sense it's a lot of data and often people get desensitized on #'s.) It will be interesting to see how your usage drops offloading the downloads like you mentioned.

Yeah I agree 512kbit wouldn't be enough for sure, it'd be super laggy & far from snappy as you said. I was just calculating out your total bandwidth to get idea of what bandwidth you'd need. ;) I figured that'd be helpful for you to research your VPS stuff as many throttle/set speed or price is based bandwidth, either total transfer per month or transfer speeds which in turn are the same with time thrown in the calc. (In other words you can only transfer so much per month at a given speed & likewise your max speed could be determined by total you're allowed to transfer per month.) Of course many do 95th percentile which is a fancy play on both to give you bursting. Key is to accurately estimate your usage so you can get in a play you're happy with, suit your needs & avoid/minimize overages.

Well, Martin, If need be, i can let you use space on my server. I have no bandwith Limit and a 100 mbit connection to the internet. And if nececerry, i will grant you Admin rights.

And where I host it, I can ask the price, but it will need to be payed over to an account in the Netherlands. (we don't accept cred card etc).

And this way I "donate" to you for the good product you are making, without actualy donating :)

O and for your information, I was notified that we should be able to test with IPv6 on our servers next year, so this server will be able to have an IPv6 public ip when the real IPv6 will start.

I have my own servers at a friends business center and since I managed his servers for his internal as well as external I can do it as well.
It's bonded T-1 relatively fast and I wouldn't worry about bandwidth or downloads
