DNS wildcard's & RBL/SURBL use open DNS

I posted here before martin's posts in the other thread.. (He was on a business trip as he stated there)

I started my own thread because Slug closed the other one after it got side-tracked.

You can see opendns is not blocking my lookups to spamhaus rbl in output I provided. Besides martin said opendns can create false positives not block them.

Not sure if opendns has option to change the RBL behavior (maybe in paid version or if you create an account) but I've only trusted my own dns servers for years & highly recommend anyone running a mail server to run their own too even if just caching-only BIND which isn't too resource heavy at all. Not sure what you use (I wouldn't even trust my ISP's) but for anyone interested there are lots of how-to's about setting it up. There might even be one on here or maybe someone will make one.

mmm
in the faq on opendns page it's written about dnsbl. they block the request.

generally i've set up a cache dns too but the forward dns was opendns . lately i'm using google dns services... 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 (but check it out..not sure. )

bye

Haven't looked. Maybe they forgot to block a few. lol

Hmm I just use root servers which bypasses all other servers which I thought was 'proper' way unless you were running a secondary. Hasn't failed me yet.
