Outgoing queue next try "as soon as possible"
Hello Everybody,
I am using hMailserver 4.3 (latest stable build) on a Windows 2003 STD server (Pentium D 2.8ghz / 1GB / 250GB 7200rpm SATA). It is running smoothly and I am very happy.
There is only one tiny problem, I am forwarding e-mail from a local acount to an external address. (mail from willem@localdomain.tld goes to willem@externaldomain.tld). I configured that using the forward tab on hMail admin.
The thing is that the messages are received very quickly, and put into the outgoing queue almost instantaniously. However sending them to the external server takes some time, up to like 2 minutes. Is there any way to pinpoint the source of that delay? Or is that a feature by default?
I also enabled the cache and I am using 20 delivery threads. (It is a very low-traffic server, only 2 mailboxes are configured yet).
The SMTP server I am trying to forward to is "filter.exchange.exchange.wmit.nl" with address willem at exchange dot wmit dot nl. The delay doesn't seem to reside on that server, since e-mail sent to that address form another server (my ISP's smtp) is delivered directly.
Thank you in advance for any of your time!

Thanks for the quick reply! Is there any way to disable the delay. (if only for one e-mail account?)
The thing is that I am using a pushmail service to my mobile. It would be wonderful if I could override the delay. I understand the reason that it is there, but perhaps that there is a way to override it?

Whoow, after several attempts via Microsoft Exchange, I couldn't get it working with my Nokia E50. The ....-ing exchange server was working with my phone, but not with my Apple Mail.App... _bleh_
After quite a while I decided to shut Exchange down and go back to the IMAP setup I had, using the hMailserver. Since I upgraded the mailserver from 4.2, to 4.3 there was a nice suprise for me...
The imap idle command! My phone supports it! and my e-mail is going like charm now! Pushmail it is after all!
Anyway, one question resides... My phone only downloads the headers from my IMAP folder. For about 50% of the messages it doesn't download the senders name, for the other 50% it does. Only after downloading the complete message, the sender appears in my inbox view. Do you have any idea what that is?

All right, no hurries. Just for your info: Mail.App is working like charm with hMailserver here.
Could it have something todo with the amount of headers the mailmessages have? Some mails travel longer so they have more headers? Or is that very stupid? (Since Nokia is probably attempting to minimize the required data traffic over GPRS / EDGE connections)
Please let me know if you find anything which might help this. If you want me to connect my e50 nokia to your test server, let me know.

I haven't found any issues, and I don't have access to this cell phone. If you have an IMAP log which shows the error you can send it to me at martin@hmailserver.com and I may be able to see what's going on.

Hello Martin, this topic: http://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewto ... 457df114af
describes the same problem, there you found a fix by changing some code. Is it possible to make this change in the upcomming new build of hMailserver? It seems that this problem is not just one phone but the entire Nokia E Series lineup (since they all use the same Series 60 3rd edition software). I have tested it with the E50 and E65 and both have the missing sender problem, just like described in the other topic.
Thank you in advance for you reaction,
Kind regards
edit: I found an emulator for Nokia Series 60 3rd edition:

Only, I am not sure if the emulator includes the mail application as found on the real handset.

Re:
Hey! Yes, for me it really bothers me that it is. Is there no way to cancel it today?

12.5 year old thread - still not a record here, but close
There is no way to change this behavior
What are you hoping to achieve? Perhaps there is a work around...
Why the need for instant??
1 minute isn't very long

Yes. It's useful that I have to correspond with people continuously, it takes time and it gets in the way. I don't really understand why you need it ..

Try and answer the questions without being a smart alec, and you might get a reasonable answer

Re: Outgoing queue next try "as soon as possible"
I do not understand. If you said you can't change it, what does it matter to me? It bothers me and I want the email to pass immediately. If you can't do nothing ...
Re: Outgoing queue next try "as soon as possible"
email is rarely immediate
On many systems, mine included, it takes about 15 to 20 seconds to pass through my Spam testing, and that's if I accept the message. If I bounce the message well...
IF the message is for one recipient, but is to be forwarded to an address not the original intended recipient (and then not kept at original address) use an alias address instead
If the message is for multiple recipients perhaps try a distribution list instead.
If you need to send a copy to a set address, use a script to add an extra recipient as the message is being received.
So, again, what is your 'use case' for forwarding email automatically?

Then hmailserver probably isn't the product for you
Your 'clients' should just provide their gmail address to whomever is sending the mail to them
If you NEED a copy, you could always download it via external POP3 download from gMail

Re: Outgoing queue next try "as soon as possible"
If your customers cannot wait 1 minute ... Problem is that they think they are "important", well - they are not, they are selfish.
Email was NEVER intended to be INSTANT - nor was SMS (mobile phone texting) SMS was created to use surplus capacity in the network and the SMS was sent only when network capacity allowed it.
Now, about being "important"...
A good test is to take a glass of water...
Put your index finger in the water...
Now quickly pull out your finger...
The bigger the hole in the water, the more important you are!

Okay, I see, you don't have to make fun of me.

not making fun of you, making fun of your customers.

Well, I'm Danish... We do stuff, get things done and tell people off if they dont like. Self irony is also part of our DNA so most of the time we come across as rude ...
