501 EHLO Invalid domain address.

There is a customer who's trying to send emails to us and every time they send us mail, we get the aforementioned error.

I've looked at topics:

I've looked at and verified that the "Check host in the HELO command" is NOT enabled. It never has been. What else can be causing this problem.

Also, I'm curious to know why this one is an 'invalid address.' I'm not sure what it's looking for there...

Is it possibly because it's using upper case letters??

Did a dnsreport for motoman.com and MX pieces looked fine.

If that means anything.

It occurs because he has specified a leading space in his host name. There's two spaces between EHLO and MESSEN... This is a (small) violation of the SMTP RFC.

The quickest workaround is to ask him to correct this error. I'll change the behavior for 4.3.1 so that hMailServer ignores this RFC violation. Feels like hMailServer was a bit too strict here. (I'll put up a beta of 4.3.1 later this weekend)

I've created a new build now where this is fixed and which I run on my own server. Will continue to run it for another day before I put it up though.
