Can someone help me with this error? Is it them or me?

Post by skadar » 2004-08-04 03:52

I'm having trouble sending mail to a particular address, and I would like to verify that it is not our server that is having problems... but rather the recipients server. I'm on Win2K Server, latest hMailServer, IIS, late-model PHP and mySQL.

Basically we send a mail to an address and get an "Undeliverable" email in return:

Code: Select all

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

   Sent: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 22:36:58 -0400 (EDT)
   Subject: My Subject

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

JoeUser@mortons.com
   Error type: SMTP
   Error Description: Unknown SMTP error.
Additional information: Server response: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for
JoeUser@mortons.com

MailDaemon
hMailServer
The associated section of my log is something like:

Code: Select all

they've blocked you for some reason.

are you on a dynamic IP? are you possibly listed on a spam database?

To me it looks more like the MX record for the domain mortons.com is not up to date. If the MX record in the DNS is pointing to an incorrect mail server, there's a big risk that this error occurs.

relay settings

Post by henkk » 2004-08-17 12:38

Hi, looks like your relay settings...

Go to your SMTP settings and change to 'Relay All' then see if it works, then change the settings to allow only the relaying you need.

hope this helps,

Same problem. Changing relaying doesn't help! Any idea?

hotglare:
First of all, dont post the same problem in two threads.
Second: Your problem has probalby nothing to do with issue this therad. Not with the other thread you posted in either.

The error message you are receiving (553 5.3.0 ylpvm03,DNSBL:To request removal of, 64.173.11.238, send the complete error message in an E-mail to removeme@sbc.sbcglobal.net ) is because you are in a DNS blacklist.

The error message you are receiving from the other clearly states twhat you should to to be remoevd?

what should I do?

Post by hotglare » 2004-10-10 00:44

Sorry I thought they are same problem.
I have dynamic IP and I am using everyDNS.net as my dns.
How can I solve the problem I post then?
My IP changes once a while. Do I really need to send email to removeme@sbcglobal.net in order to solve my problem?
Thanks for the help.

You have been added to a black list. (Perhaps because someone who have had your dynamic IP earlier have sent spam from your IP.)

If the owner of the blacklist tells you that you need to send an email to their server to un-list your from the black list, you need to do that.

Also, run some open relay tests against your server to make sure it can't be used by spammers. (Some black list servers won't remove you if you haven't configured your relay options properly).
