Password recovery MSSQLCE

Post by vinjo » 2020-01-10 18:13

I'm struggling to get my old internal database connected to hMailServer again.

I wanted to switch the db to MSSQL, but canceled it before finishing the wizard.
When I looked in the .ini config file, the default settings were overwritten.

Now I'm trying to get back into my old database and I have most of the settings right, except for the password.
It seems to be an autogenerated password.

Am I able to recover this database?

He doesn't know the password. It has been removed from the ini.

In this case i recommend switching to a new Database like
MySQL by running DBSetup.exe, starting with a new, empty Database and after it let the DirectorySynchroizer tool
reindex all Emails from DATA Folder.

Another way is to restore a hMailServer Backup, if exists.

Update:
It might be worth taking a carefully lpok at the changed hmailserver.ini file.

DBSetup.exe doesn't change anything by itself
within hmailserver.ini. In fact, DBSetup.exe is contacting hmailserver.exe and inokes a series of
Function calls with the new DB Configuration settings. The series of Function calls finishes
finally at the end of the DBSetup Wizard.

So, if he cancled the DBSetup prematurely, chances are good the old DB Password for SQL CE is still valid.
