Export Mail Domain

Post by paultilley100 » 2019-07-29 17:48

Hi All

If I copy the whole mail domains folder from within the data folder, then remove the domain from hMail....am I able to copy that folder back at a later date if it is required again?

TIA

Paul

The data folder is only half of the setup: details of the emails within the data folder are also held in the database. If you remove the data and the domain and then require it back then you will have to import all the emails using data director syncroniser.

Recommendation: DISABLE your domain instead of removing it within hmailserver and then you can move the data directory elsewhere. This will stop clients accessing it.
If you then need to restore you can restore the data directory and simply reset the domain back to a live enabled domain

Alternate recommendation
Rename the domain to something like example.local and don't tell anyone
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Its highly unlikely that I will need to reactivate this domain, so I would like to delete it from the list.
So if I did, it is possible to use the data directory syncroniser to rebuild?

1, data directory syncroniser takes ages (email count dependant)
2, ALL emails, both sent and received, will all be put in to the INBOX. No subfolders, no sent folders.

If you are happy with that then go for it. Personally I would go the quicker and less hassle route stated earlier.

A disabled domain or even renamed one will be as invisible as a non existent one but with added benefits when it comes to restoring.
