hMailServer for productive use / which Database?

Post by hmbaer » 2019-05-01 14:36

Hello everyone,

i tested hMailServer over the last weeks and i like it very much! Great tool!

In the future i would like to use it for productive use at home and/or at my company.

Because of my large IMAP-Account that i would migrate into hMailServer i think i have to use a external database with hMailServer.

Concerning https://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewt ... 10&t=33819 what would you suggest to use?

I prefer MySql - what do you think about it? And which version?

Thanks in advice.

(Current test setup: Windows Server 2019 (virtual machine @ my dedicated server) + hMailServer 5.6.7 - Build 2425 + MySQL Community Server 8.0.16)

Personally I use an older version of MySQL or MariaDB, but PostgreSQL is great.

You can also use a better version of SQL Server than the CE that is included.
MS SQL Server has great tools, and scales well.

How large is your large IMAP account?
Is there only the one 'large' account?
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Hello mattg,

thank you for your answer!

At the moment, there is only one large IMAP account with about 10 GB but in the future there will be more.

I will run hMailServer with Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019.

Which database-product (and version?) would you prefer? I think it would be not good to use the internal database. I like MySQL but i am unsecure concerning this post: https://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewt ... 10&t=33819 (and i would like to get a forward-looking solution with hMailServer (i try hMailServer these time on different servers and i am fascinated :-) ).

Thank you in advance.

Some ideas for me (new installation) that will work in the future, too? :-)

Thank you.
