rDNS setup help?

Post by itsmesri » 2016-04-09 03:27

I have my personal email server at home. Till yesterday I had dynamic ip. I was getting bounced emails becuase rDNS did not match with my email domain. Today I got 5 static IPs from my ISP. But I don't know how to setup them for rDNS for Hmail server. Please some one help me to setup rDNS for godaddy and hmailServer. I already setup the ip in my PC server just need to setup email server now.

Thanks in advance

rDNS is typically set by your ISP, ask them to set that for you.
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Admin,

I requested AT&T for reverse PTR. They added my 76.213.79.2 to mail.intensifytech.com. Now I am trying to delist from SORBS DUHL it says "No acceptable MX records found for mail.intensifytech.com" .

How the Exclusion checking is performed
The following steps are followed in order, and each lookup chain will terminate when an error occurs.
  • MX records are looked up for the domain entered.
  • MX records with short TTLs are discarded.
  • A records are looked up for each MX record with acceptable TTLs.
  • A records with short TTLs are discarded.
  • The IP addresses in each A record are resolved to PTR records.
  • IP addresses with PTR records that have short TTLs are discarded.
  • IP addresses with PTR records without matching A records (in previous lookups) are discarded.
  • Any remaining IP addresses are added to the DUHL exclusions database.
Godaddy Settings.

Is my rDNS propery setup? Is something I am missing?.

MX must point to A record, not CNAME...

A record mail.intensifytech.com (the one MX point to) is missing...

I have several A records all pointing to the same IP address without problems ;-)

....as per RFC rules. This is true.

Although recently I did a test using CNAME records for on of my MX addresses for a small period of time and didnt actually have any problems. CNAME records are frowned upon and is forbidden to use because of the strain of longer dns lookups and potential problems on mailservers.

Anyway, be good and dont use CNAME records. https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2181#section-10.3

I have updated "mail.intensifytech.com" to "A" record. Still SORBS giving same error. Looks like I am missing one point here.
IP addresses with PTR records that have short TTLs are discarded.
What is this means? AT&T setup the rDNS TTL 120 mins. Is this supposed to change to 1 day or more? SORBS need 1 day or more.

Will AT&T accept this?

You are asking the wrong people.

You need to ask SORBS what they mean by "short" (TTL) and
AT&T what they deem as 'long enough' (or better whether they can make it longer).

My PTR ttl is 60 minutes and I dont have any problems.

Also bear in mind you may have to delist your address at SORBS to refresh. http://www.sorbs.net/lookup.shtml?76.213.79.2

EDIT: is this on a DYNAMIC IP address??

http://www.sorbs.net/delisting/overview.shtml
Dynamic User/Host List Database (DUHL)
Listing is performed manually after contact from netizens or ISPs indicating dynamically assigned space, or whenever SORBS administrators notice the same, for example by receiving spam from such an address range.

De-listing is a manual process and will only be performed when the owner of the IP address block contacts the SORBS support system to indicate the addresses listed are statically assigned. There is also a self-help mechanism for the automated exclusion of single IP addresses from the DUHL; see the DUHL FAQ for details.

Sorry I am using Hmailserver that is the reason trying to fix the issue here and find anyone has the same issue before.

No... mine is Static IP however I sent email to outlook address it went to SPAM folder that means still SORBS blocking it.

SORBS requirements is "All TTLs (Time To Live) must be greater than 43200 seconds (12 hours) and should be 86400 (1 day) or more.".

I was trying delist myself from SORBS it is giving No acceptable MX records found for mail.intensifytech.com.

I am missing only from AT&T PTR TTL only otherthan everywhere I have 1 day.

http://ipadmin.junkemailfilter.com/rdns.php

Your IP address is FCrDNS'ed with success...

The SORBS check on your IP address show 2 NETWORKS and 0 HOSTS !!! Your ISP have a problem !!
