ocassionally delay

Post by antons » 2016-01-18 13:14

Hello!
I have relatively small installation of Hmailserver on Windows Server 2003 2. All works fine long time, but suddenly the email client (different clients- Outlook and Thunderbird does the same) connection to server sometimes takes long time (2- 5 minutes or more). In these moments Hmailserver can be reached by telnet on 25 port without any delay. I upgrade Hmailserver to latest- problem remains. No messages in log file even debug. It seems like on POP, IMAP and SMTP the same problem. I use spam-assassin and anti virus (Clam) in my configuration. The server performance is normal.

May be some ideas, please?
A.

run windows command prompt on email client machine and then

tracert your-mail-hostname

and

tracert ip-of-mailhost-machine

The all clients and HMS are on the same local area network and share the same address group. No routers. DNS resolution occurs normally- in these problematic moments I can telnet HMS by domain name. Tracert completes in one step.

then switch on debug,smtp,pop/imap and tcp logging and wait for one of these delays. Then check log to see if the delay is between initial connect from client and hms processing the mail or whether its prior to the initial connect. If its prior to initial connect then its unlikely to be anything to do with hmail except possibly in settings/protocols/SMTP/general/ maximum number of connections. The default for that is 0 which means unlimited. What do you have it set to?

SMTP connections is default. Debugging and POP SMTP IMAP logs shows nothing, when client unsuccessful tries connect to HMS. You will right- seems like there is problem with base server not with HMS. I had issues with server's network interface card in past. My be it needs to be replaced.

Thank You for response.

After replacing NIC the problem remains the same. I'm sure nothing to do with HMS. The connection is lost (occasionally) in hosts operating system- MS Server 2003 R2 SP2 on this way to HMS. Unfortunately I have no idea what to do. It seems like no problems, if the client connects from outside, not from local network. No firewall on host. Static address, of course, no IPV6.

TCP logs on HMS stays clear, when problem occurs. When connection is established, log shows connection normally.

I found one problem. My Thunderbird client on Linux makes this problem. When Thunderbird stucks, another client- Outlook on another Windows machine works good. However I got some messages from clients on Outlook, that delay occurs sometimes. I will test it further. For now I write HMS host's interface IP in protocols instead of 0.0.0.0

Switch replaced. Today all works normally. May replacement of 0.0.0.0 to NIC address helped. This was last I did.
