Restart causes email to be re-delievered?

For last couple of month, when I restart service / server, (some clients and not a few) complain about their non-delievered email delievered to their reciepts. It is I think, their non delievered mail stuck in somewhere and when I make a restart it is delievered but after many days later.

Do you check the delivery queue? or look in the root of the data directory? Also, look in the logfiles about the time of the original passing of the email from the clients to see what then actually happens (ie what then happens when it comes to sending them "SMTPC"). The log file usually has answers to most things.

It is hard to detect mail that has start deliever and finished after x days later.

What are the recommended option to enable for logging ? Smtp / Pop / Tcp/IP enough?

Should be easy actually.

Customer says "my email has only just been delievered"

You ask, "when did you send it? Show me the date/time in your SENT mail"

You get the date/time from the email, and look in the logs for that time. Then trace it from there.

APPLICATION and SMTP are a must and usually sufficient for daily routine checking (in my opinion). For tracing problems, TCPIP may help. DEBUG as a last resort if you have real problems. Note that TCPIP and DEBUG will give you MASSIVE log files.

Client complain about they mails are re-delievered. Not just delievered. It is like hmail re-send those mail. Do you think, next time I can catch them in queue before I make a restart?

Enable debug logging ( + TCP/IP and SMTP) and try to deliver mails again from hMailAdministrator -> Status -> Delivery queue.

Select one, right click, select "send now".

But I need to find out what cause them to stuck in queue. Probably they are being delievered and also stuck in queue. I enabled logging and reduce retry time to 2 and 15 minutes in between retries. And just waiting for a new stuck in queue. Hope it will give a clue..

Do you have any inline virus scanning, or Spam checking?
What are your retry settings?
Do you use a SMTP relayer?

Are these messages all very large?

is there a common theme with recipient domains?

(I don't have that issue on same version)
do you regularly log? can you follow an initial delivery of one such message from received from client to received by recipient server??

Not sure but heard that some client are sending some documents so probably have attachments but not sure about the sizes. I enabled logging and when there is a stuck I will update the thread. No common thing. They are different.
