Hi.
Why all emails have to be uploaded again in order to be copied to the sent folder. Couldn't the server just put it in the SEND folder instead of Client uploading the same email again, wasting bandwidth for no good reason?
Or am I missing something? I'm using Thunderbird for a IMAP client.
Thank you
Br,

Yes, you are missing something.
It is not standard functionality for SENT mail to automatically be put into the sent folder by the server. Yes, outlook/hotmail/live do it (and maybe Gmail but not sure) but they are one of a very few (I cant name others) and in the main it is down to your client to make the move to sent (depending on your choice of settings: you can also have it copy your sent to LOCAL folder instead or not at all).
Anyway, this is the way it is and it is a discussion we have had MANY time before .... but the result stands.
Summary: Sorry, no, you need to set your client to do the move.
THAT SAID..... one of the discussions about this led to one user finding a solution and he posted it here in this post: viewtopic.php?p=172377#p172377 . It isnt client or HMS based, and it involves a LOT of faffing around with other stuff but it worked for him.

Re: IMAP - Copying to SENT folder. Why?
Thank you for reply.
I was wondering about this behaviour for long time now. Double upload of same email seems very stupid to me.
Anyway... Couldn't HMS script or even a rule could copy it to SENT folder? If so we can simply disable client sending to SENT folder as you suggested and have the functionality by default.
Thank you

Sure you can.kdiamond wrote: Couldn't HMS script or even a rule could copy it to SENT folder
Use a rule or write the script, put it in the eventhandlers.vbs script. Dont forget to script for loop-checking and to ensure it is for outbound emails only. posting.php?mode=edit&f=7&p=174479
(Im intrigued to know, though, why is it so much hassle to do the copy to send folder?)

You might want to start here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=hmail ... server.com. It will give you some idea on chances of success in achieving what you want to do. (I suspect you will find letting the email client doing the replication to sent folder is easier
)
