email filtering

Hi,

I am wondering how the field "receipient list" work?

I am trying to do filtering on the follow:
1) when receive unknown email account of local domain eg sde@abc.com,
I will do a catch-all using webmaster@abc.com and distribute to
user1@abc.com
2) Using filering at user level. At user1 account, i do a filtering to delete
those unknown email using rules "receipeint list" -> "not contains" ->
"user1@abc.com"
3) Whenever someone sent To or Cc to user1@abc.com, it is still working.
4) However I sent a test mail using test@abc.com (unknown account), the
filtering is not working. I suppose it will check for receipient user and do
a delete of the mail when the mail does not consist user1@abc.com.
5) I try to use "receipeint list" -> "not contains" -> "*user1@abc.com*",
hmm.. it can filter away the unknow user mail but when i try send To or
Cc, it is not working.

Any advise or other alternative to achieve the above scenario?

What are you trying to achieve exactly? It sounds like you just want to delete mail to any account that does not exist. Why not just delete the catch-all and then mail to unknown users will be rejected automatically?

Hi matty,

Yes I will like to get rid of those unknow mails. Thanks for your suggestion. I should have do that rather then playing around with the rules.

No problem aklryan.

Catch-all accounts usually are magnets for SPAM. If someone does not know your address you probably don't want mail from them anyway!

Rules in hMail can be very useful though - just not for what you were trying to accomplish.
