html signature for plaintext email?

Postby Aim12340 » 2012-02-15 22:54

Hi,

It is possible to add a html signature to plaintext emails? When i send a message with thunderbird, thunderbird will normally send it as plaintext, and hmailserver attaches the plaintext signature instead of the html one.

Seems like it should be easy enough for hMS to update the content-type header and add the html signature?
Has anyone get a tip to acheive that?

Thanks.

You could probably use hmails scripting engine to accomplish it check the user contributed section, there might be some signature scripts or snipits that might help you make your own script.
If at first you don't succeed, bomb disposal probably isn't for you! ヅ

Thanks ^Doom^. Doesn't look like anyone has done that.

Looking at the sripting it should be fairly simple - convert the Body's CRLFs or <br> and put that in the HTMLBody, i'm geussing the COM API will update the headers etc to suit. Of ourse i'd have to check the sender domain and there are always gotchas :) I haven't got the time for all the testing that would be needed either.

It'll be quicker just to set everyones signature at the client, but i think it would be a great feature for a future hMS.

cheers.

Yep

Or set everyone's thunderbird to default to HTML for new mail
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

setting thunderbird to use html doesn't work, you might want to google it.

you can set thunderbird to use html but if you don't use any formatting then thuderbird will always send a text email with a content type of text/plaintext.

fixes are:
-use a html signature
-fake a blank signature with just <i> </i> (must have the space between)
-select option/format/html every time you send an email
-install an add-in to force it.

none of which are good solutions. Thuderbird just being too clever for it's own good - not doing what i ask it to makes it unpredictable and breaks integration with backend functionality like hmailserver's signatures.
