Transfer hmailserver after server-crash

Post by redman » 2009-09-07 15:40

Hello,
thanks for your great work on hmail-server and this forum.

We were using hmailserver on a windows 2003 server.
While we made some changes on the active directory, unfortunately the windows-server crashed and the active directory was destroyed.
Since then we could setup a rescue-system to have access to the data, but it is not possible to run any application which was seted up in the active directory..
We decided now to set up a new server and need to know, which data (and how)we have to transfer to the new server, in order not to loose any mails, setting and so on.

Is there any howto or could anybody inform us which files need to be transferred to run the new server with all the old mails and setting?

Many thanks for your help

you will need ...

1) A copy of all directories referenced in the C:\Program Files\hMailServer\Bin\hMailServer.INI file.

eg
[Directories]
ProgramFolder=C:\Program Files\hMailServer
DatabaseFolder=
DataFolder=D:\Mail\Data
LogFolder=D:\Logs\Mail
TempFolder=C:\Program Files\hMailServer\Temp
EventFolder=C:\Program Files\hMailServer\Events

2) A copy of your database.
3) A copy of C:\Program Files\hMailServer\Bin\hMailServer.INI

I would suggest

a) Reinstalling your database on new machine (keep same ip addresses, users, etc etc used to access the db by hmail)
b) Copy all your directories from 1 above, into the same locations / paths as previous
c) Install hMailServer (use same admin password etc)
d) stop service, copy over / overwrite hMailServer.INI with your old one
e) Restore your database from backup
f) restart hmail service

make sure your users / domain are still the same in AD or hMail wont map the users->AD properly.

apart from all the usual ports etc that need opening, that should be it I think.

Cheers

S.
