Spamassasin, Win2k3 and hmailserver 5.1

Post by tube » 2009-04-22 19:46

Hi there,

I am currently using the eventhandler.vbs to start spamassasin.exe manually per each email which costs ressources but works well however.

I now want to switch to spamd.exe, so I disabled the eventhandler script part regarding SA and started spamd.exe from a command prompt. I can connect to it via "telnet localhost 783", so it actually runs. Now I checked the SA integration checkbox of hmailserver. But the problem is that the email comes in unfiltered. No indication of any SA processing in the mail headers.

Any idea?

If at first you don't succeed, bomb disposal probably isn't for you! ヅ

Sure, the option is enabled and the settings are "localhost" and Port 783.

Do you mean something in particular?

are you sure it is "localhost" localhost only exists if you have it setup in your hosts file or with your local DNS server. try 127.0.0.1 instead

Do you have an application based firewall on your server that could be preventing the connection?

Nope, Firewall is disabled. The server is located in an internal network.

Enable all logging, reproduce the problem and then look for SpamAssassin in the log.

Grmpf - as an IT professional I have to say that I actually hate computers

It's working now and I know how this must look like (another dumb user), but I swear I did not change anything at all :?

However, thanks for all your help; I really appreciate it!

Another thing:

I definded to add "*****SPAM*****" in the subject of a spam email.
Now I want to use a rule (in external accounts). I added one: If subject contains "*****SPAM*****", move the e-mail to the IMAP folder "sa".

But the rule doesn't seem to be working. Email that marked with "*****SPAM*****" is moved to the "sa" folder when it comes via POP3 (external) with this subject. But if the local spamd marks the subject, the rule is not used.

Is the **********SPAM********* addition to the subject before the message is downloaded by hMailserver?
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

If I add the **********SPAM********* addition to the mail before it is downloaded by HMS, the rule works fine. However, it does not work if the integrated Spamassassin implementation (using spamd) marks the email with this subject.

I'm not sure that messages loaded from External accounts are sent through SPAM checking in hMailserver by default.

Have you selected anti-spam in the external account settings?

I am sure that HMS sends the e-mail through SA because it actually changes the header to ****SPAM****. But the point is that the rule processing seems to be done BEFORE the spam checking and I would assume that HMS should proccess the rules AFTER spam checking.

No it doesn't. There's something else wrong with your rule.

I use a rule just like yours and I think your issue may be that the *******SPAM******* in your rule doesn't match SA's *****SPAM***** I ran into the same issue and it was that I had placed more **** in either the rule or in the Add To Subject that didn't match the 5 *'s on each side like SA
