Webmail general question

Post by black zero » 2008-11-12 02:14

Hi all,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for all your supports to me. Hmail forum has always been a friendly forum, and has given me lots of help in the past up until now. I sincerely hope that you all will keep helping me in the future. ^^

I only want to ask for opinions, though, for this thread. Maybe I'll ask a tech support but it's not now.

The previous email server software was Mdaemon, but since it's a shareware, and my boss didn't want to give me extra budget to be spent for email server, I had to switch over to hmail. Overal, hmail's performance's great. Much better than mdaemon...

However, as it stands, it lacks support for webmail, rite? Compared to Mdaemon, hmail doesn't stand a chance on this area. I have a plan to add webmail functionality to hmail, using squirrel. But I really don't have any knowledge on complex setup for database and web server. I can use IIS and Access fairly well, though.

I have 35 clients on my LAN. All of them are using Outlook to send and retrieve emails from Hmail. 97 % of them are NOT mobile user.

My question is: Is it good enough to use IIS for hmailserver? I am rather familiar with it and really clueless for XAMPP. Any input is greatly appreciated.

hMailServer doesn't need IIS (or Apache)

SquirrelMail can work with IIS (or Apache, or any other web server that supports PHP)

You need a working PHP first.

You also need PERL installed to use the auto-config tools included with SquirrelMail. I didn't use this, I configured my SquirrelMail manually.

You could also look at other webmail solutions, including roundcube or the OSAN listed here http://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewto ... f=9&t=8089

Or for a few users, you could get them to use firefox and a firefox extension that will check IMAP mail boxes.
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

There are a few.

Searching Addons for IMAP will list them.

Simple Mail is one - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5593
