Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
Hello uteliux, I use no 3rd-party Anti-Spam-Tools.
I only use the following HMS-Tools:
- Use SPF
- Check Host in the HELO Command
- Check that sender has DNS-MX-Records
- DNSBL: cn.countries.nerd.dk
- DNSBL: ix.dnsbl.manitu.net
- DNSBL: zen.spamhaus.org
- DNSBL: bl.spamcop.net
- DNSBL: psbl.surriel.com
- DNSBL: safe.dnsbl.sorbs.net
- SURBL: multi.surbl.org
and last bot not least Greylisting is active.
Every day we had round about 30.000 connects and spam is not going thru.
Maybe 1 or 2 in the week.
Kind regards

hmm... i`ll try
this... configuration
OTHERS?

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
We use basically the same as Rainer, but without the greylisting. Something i should do lol

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
HI phil54, the greylisting-option was the main-reason to change from iMail to HMS.
In the beginning of use HMS (FEB-08) we catched with this option the most spam.
Now, the greylisting-sword is no longer sharp!
The most spam is catched by: "Check Host in the HELO Command"!
Since February-08 we had only 4 viruses
and I think to deactivate the ClamWin-Option, because it takes a lot of power of the server.
Kind regards

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
I also have similar setup to Rainer, but I don't do the HELO check.
I also use ClamAV [tbb] with the SaneSecurity and ClamSup ( http://www.sanesecurity.co.uk/clamav/ ) signatures. Very few SPAM emails get past hMail before getting tagged by Clam. I've had very few false-positives...approximately 60 in the past 7-8 months which I think is pretty good.
When I first set this up I didn't have Graylisting enabled, mainly because people need their emails NOW!
We were getting 90k-100k spam emails per month. Finally I switched on the Graylisting, and that number dropped 90%.

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
We use:
- Check that sender has MX records
- DNSBL: zen.spamhaus.org, ix.dnsbl.manitu.net, bl.spamcop.net
- SURBL: multi.surbl.org, black.uribl.com (I had to remove SORBS, too much FP)
- SpamAssassin
- about 30.000 connects / day
- about 5 not tagged spams / day
- about 10 correctly tagged as spam / day
- Check that sender has MX records
- DNSBL: zen.spamhaus.org, ix.dnsbl.manitu.net, bl.spamcop.net
- SURBL: multi.surbl.org, black.uribl.com (I had to remove SORBS, too much FP)
- SpamAssassin
- about 30.000 connects / day
- about 5 not tagged spams / day
- about 10 correctly tagged as spam / day

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
hi
i use hmailserver on my webhosting servers -- 4 of them
on an average each server has around 1500 - 2000 email ids
spam processes is around 1.5 lac a day
good emails -- just around 5000 per day
untagged spams practically non existent
no software can beat hmail server in terms of simplicity, ease of use if you slightly technically willing to learn and spend some effort
i have tried mailenable and imail but hmail wins because it is excellent in it core functions.
initially i struggled a bit but once i got things line up on one server the installations in other 3 servers were just a matter of 20 minutes each includes installing hmailserver, php and squirrelmail.
though hmail does not have a lot of showbiz and you need to setup your own webmail --- it is unbeatable from the point of view of simple and effective virus and spam protection and incase of an emergency i can migrate my entire email server within 30 minutes. I auto backup the database every 1 hour ready for any kind of emergency.
i use mx check, reverse dns, spamhaus, spamcop --- and most important greylisting
i have whitelisted under greylisting the entire group of gmail and microsoft server ips ie if the from email id contains gmail / hotmail and the source ip is of hotmail / gmail then do not greylist --- this is because hotmail / gmail give their next try after several hours sometimes.
you can do this by firing a simple mysql query.
also the support from this forum is very very good ... several people to help you out
hmail server ---------- is simply fantastic

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
thx :d hmailserver is realy THE BEST i ever saw :d it runs very good with win server 2008

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
I use ASSP as a front-end spam filter. It works very well. It's not nearly as difficult to set up as people have made it out to be.
Secondly, I use built-in HMS spam filtration services with some tweaks of my own (similar to those listed above).

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
Hello,
Following your advices in this post, here is the configuration I'm now using, on hMailServer 4.4.273 :
What is working fine :
- Use SPF
- Check that sender has DNS-MX-Records
- DNS black list : cn.countries.nerd.dk, ix.dnsbl.manitu.net, zen.spamhaus.org, bl.spamcop.net, psbl.surriel.com
- SURBL : multi.surbl.org
- Clamwin integrated with hMailServer
What's not working :
- Check Host in the HELO Command : even my ISP is not clear on this point
- Greylisting : too long to receive messages
- DNS BL : too much false positives (with newsletters especially) with safe.dnsbl.sorbs.net, hostkarma.junkemailfilter.com, blackholes.five-ten-sg.com
- ASSP : too hard to configure (it works fine however, but there is too much options and I got some problems with repeating messages such as Yahoo Groups).
I'm testing this configuration since 4 days now and all spams are detected whereas I don't have a single FP (more than 7000 mails sent and received).
Regards,
Fred

If your mailserver is busy clamwin may as has in the past been reported many times start to cause issues with high CPU usage and undelivered messages starting to build up in the queue. Just keep an eye on it.Fredouille45 wrote:Clamwin integrated with hMailServer

Re: what anti SPAM system do u use?
Indeed it has. So I uninstalled clamwin..
Not a smart way, I know but there's no help for it.
