HOWTO: Installing with XAMPP (video tutorial)

Post by [PT]Cableguy » 2007-08-02 20:21

Hi HMailServer users:

I've made a "simple" video tutorial to help HMailServer admins, to create a free internet mail system.
This "tutorial" is based on 3 videos: (click on images to load youtube videos)

1st - XAMPPinstallation (apache+php+perl+mysql)
Image

2nd - hMailServer 4.4 - Build 270 and PhpWebAdmin installation
Image

3rd - DynamicDNS configuration, OutlookExpress tests and SMTP RELAY
Image

Alternatativly, users can download the video tutorials, i've created with Camtasia.
Just extract them to any folder and double-click the html files to view the videos.
Here are the links:
xampp_alone.rar (1.7MB)
2nd_hmailserver.rar (2.7MB)
noip_outloo_final.rar (8.7MB)

I hope this contributes to HMailServer growth. Many, many thanks for this wonderfull software.

NOTE: I'll use this topic to add more hmailserver video tutorials, like adding webmail clients, etc.
aka: Bruno Vaz

You're right. I have some tutorials in mind:

XAMPP security
RoundCube and ClarOS webmail configuration
Creation of a webpage to logon/create new user

The following ones will be created when i implement them in my "test lab":
active-directory integration
spamassasin and clamav configuration
networking tips, like: port-forwarding, pop&smtp, nslookup,etc...

btw, anyone is welcome to give tips, for the creation of more video tutorials. Thanks again.

Well, if you have a domain and it point's to you're IP, you only have to substitute you're domain with the one i've used on the demos (myfreedomain.no-ip.org).

About, security, i'll try to create a video tutorial....faster.
Thank you for you're kind words.

fawazomr,

You're kind of getting off-topic here. I would suggest you post a question asking for assistance in either General Discussions or Installation Problems forums.

Not trying to be a stickler, but you'll likely have more luck getting help in a thread entitled "Pre-Installation Questions" versus "hMailServer Video Tutorials". ;)

Just as a note here on Xampp, Ive been using it for a web server now for quite a few years and yes it was designed for web developement but with the right alterations within the apache, and php configs you CAN use it for production without concern for security. But make sure you keep up-to-date on all security issues addressed with each of these products. I have for my website software developed by Boonex and recently it was a center for attack because of incorrect Apache config's on alot of servers , I run my server on two machines at home and my website got hit aswell by hackers for 2 weeks solid, with over 3000 ip's and 200,000 hits. My website had 0 downtime and servers did not faulter. Because I had the servers configed correctly.

Just thought Id share :D
