Do I need to install Windows SMTP server in order to use Hmailserver?

Post by DoxxCanarias » 2024-06-05 21:25

Hello,
I'm migrating to a new VPS and was wondering if I needed to install Windows SMTP server in order to run Hmailserver or not.
I'm having issues with Hmailserver sending and receiving mail and I'm not sure if it's the fact the SMTP server isn't installed or if it's something else.

Moreover, is there some kind of tutorial that explains how to use and activate TLS encryption on a windows 2022 server machine?

Windows SMTP not required. In fact, make sure its disabled.

There are lots of tutorials for certificates/encryption. Have a look a a few and post back if you run into problems. TLS is part of hmailserver and not OS dependent.

Thanks,
I'm uninstalling Windows SMTP server as we speak.
I can't seem to make this certificate thing work for some reason.
Moreover I'm sending messages from one user to another user on my server using Thunderbird from my email client and I keep getting this message and no

It's as if it's considering my message spam! Any idea why and how I can tell the server that my IP should be able to send emails through the server?

The funny thing is that it lets in all kinds of cr4p but flags my messages as spam...

Why do you say that? There is no evidence of that shown here.

Turn off debug and stop looking at it unless you need to (and understand what it says).

What problem are you having exactly?

For full clarity for helpers run this and post the results: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=30914

In the Log Entries that you do display (you haven't shown all your Log Entries), I do not see any indication that hMailServer treated anything as SPAM. But then again, you don't show all your Log Entries.

If you are concerned over the PTR Record message, that message merely means that a PTR Record could not be found. It doesn't necessarily mean SPAM.

You should probably run this Diagnostics Report viewtopic.php?f=20&t=30914 and post results back here. However, you should make sure that the Public IP Address of hMailServer does have a PTR Record. If not then you would need to get your ISP to create a PTR Record for hMailServer's Public IP Address. Some Receiving Email Servers will reject email from hMailServer if it doesn't have a PTR Reoocrd set up for its Public IP Address.

Be sure you enable all your Logs and then check again to see how the email is processed so you can see if anything might be identified as SPAM.

You can also White List your email so SPAM Checking isn't performed but I don't believe email sent by hMailServer to hMalServer is checked for SPAM but I could be wrong about that.
