Re: mail delivery problem - verification failed from remote server

Post by cijiro » 2018-01-12 12:57

to jimimaseye:
thanks for reply, I tried to paste report, but it not show, only in edit...

i check certificate, and it can be a problem, i use certificate for main domain, but don't have for another one, if i test certificates with online tests main domain pass, but second domain have exclamation, that domain and certificate domain not the same.

I'm using certificate for both domains for pop3 communcation, is there any option to disable certificate for smtp cmmunication? Or how can I resolve it?

Thanks so much

Check if the remote email adress really exists or if you misspelled something.
Test the troublesome Email Address testwise with a diffrent Email service then Yours (for example Gmail)
and report back.

The destination server is doing a callback validation based on the sender address and it is failing. This callback validation is typically done by looking up the sender address domain MX and making and connection to send mail, and passing or failing based on the MX response to RCPT TO verb.

To pass, you need the sender domain MX record to point to a server that will accept a message for that address.

If its indeed a MX missconfiguration, you need to check if at least a primary DNS MX entry is avaiable in your
DNS-Zone, pointing to a A) Record which has to the IPv4 or IPv6 Address of you hMailServer
(if your hMailServer is running on a Windows VPS/Root Server. If your hMailServer is installed in a local lan
(LAN) and is connected to a Outside SMTP Server like Postfix/Exim/Sendmail or MS-Exchange or
IIS/SMTP as Relayserver you need to make sure your Relayserver has its required MX Entry.

Check your Domains mx entry with the following command on a command prompt

nslookup -type=mx yourdomain.com

The output should be a list of servers. If there is no MX entry, you need to add a MX entry to you DNS-Zone.

Re: mail delivery problem - verification failed from remote server

Hi,
my situation is next:
all MX are good
I have HMS with 2 domains configured,
for 1., default domain I have ssl certificate,
for 2. I have not ssl certificate, and using domain name of 1. domain in mail client to communicate with pop3/imap and smtp securely,7
and I think this can be the trouble.

By me, remote server, if i send mail from 2. domain can verifi sender, but through secure connection, but there is not certificate for second domain, and because certificate is for another domain it reply with error of verification.

Is this possible? How can i set, to force remote servers to communicate through no ssl?

I have my server for cca 5 year and never have this problem and few days ago this happens, and I no change nothing...

It is not required that the SSL certificate match the recipient domain.

It is required that the subject Common Name of the SSL certificate match the DNS name used to connect to the server. This is the hostname returned as the "mail exchanger =" portion of the MX record query response.

It is also best practice to configure the server to include this hostname in the connection banner.

Re: mail delivery problem - verification failed from remote server

Hi,
I try to explain my problem again,
I have 1 hmail server,
have 2 domains, for example ex1.com and ex2.com
I have configured HMS for ex1.com, have correct MX, ex1.com as default domain, correct PTR, valid SPF, valid wildcard certificate for *.ex1.com,
next i have added next domain ex2.com to HMS, everything like ex1.com, but without certificate.
At mail client i'm using mail.ex1.com for both domains, because of secure connection.

Everything work fine for years, no problem like that,
but few days ago, emails for ex2.com starts return from cust1.com, no other domain have problem, and if i send mail to cust1.com from ex1.com it arrives, but if I send from ex2.com, message returns with description:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Sent: Mon, 9 Jan 2018 14:21:24 +0000
Subject: some subject

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

customers@cust1.com
Error Type: SMTP
Remote server (217.67.30.112) issued an error.
hMailServer sent: RCPT TO:<customers@cust1.com>
Remote server replied: 550-Verification failed for <our@ex2.com>
550 Sender verify failed
I don't know why message returns, but if I try to solve problem with other side, it says, that problem is at my side and he's server can't verify sender.

I think that problem can be, that customers remote server communicates through secure connection with ex2.com, and it's has not valid certificate and certificate for ex1.com is used and because it's not valid for ex2.com, remote serve return false verification, because of no connection.

Is that possible and can be this problem? If yes, can be ex2.com set to communicate without certificate with other servers?

I'll try and state the answer again.

Unless you tell us the actual domain, we can't check your mx records from the internet.

ALSO, your system is generating errors

Those errors are unrelated to your issue. Updating to newest Beta will slow them down we think.

I think that your issue is related to your DNS settings
Your PTR record is for your other domain, not this one.

You can only really have one PTR record, so I'd suggest changing your DNS MX record for this domain to the same as you have it for your other domain, ie mail.dXXXX.net
also making sure that your local host name in SMTP settings says mail.dXXXX.net and see if that works.

I'd guess that THIS remote server is looking to match your PTR record to your mail server FQDN - I have seen a few servers do that, it's not very common but does limit their incoming SPAM, and also reject a lot of genuine mail.

Hi mattg,

thanks so much for your help,
I tried to change DNS MX, but it not work, still same reply from remote server,
I try to leave only mail.dXXXX.net, try mail.dXXXX.net and quXXXXX.XXX, try with and without SPF, nothing changed.

Now I think, I can't do nothing with it? What you think?

Use mx lookup to proof ur DNS mx entry is realky working. No SMTP-Server can do its Job correctly without a working MX Record.

Hi Dravion,

I checked MX multiple times, with multiple external online tools and checked DNS propagation, MX are ok.

Thanks for idea.

Did you wait long enough for it to propagate across the DNS network??

Mattg,

I think yes, 9 hours, and check public DNS servers for updated records,
I have added some new domains, every with different DNS settings, for testing, but it looks, every configuration has same result.
I try it after some hours again, but I thing it not helps.

I wrote to remote server provider, but they are very slow in reactions, and not very helpful.

I can verify your DNS-Entries for you or i can take a look via Teamviewer.
Sent me your domainname where hMailServer is listening or sent me your temporary Teamviewer details and i will
take a look.
