The attached Word documents "HMS_Install_Recovery_Manual_.doc" (zipped for forum) is a simple guide from me to a basic install of Hmailserver with MySQL external database. It also covers the RESTORE of emails and settings from previous internal backup. Note that there are 2 versions of the document: one for v5.5 and one for more recent v5.7 of MySQL (due to the installation GUI of MySQL being fundamentally different).

This procedure is useful for migrating Hmailserver from server to server or changing the database type (recommended if initially using the default internal database.)

Note: In the event of a migration/Data Restore (following this manual), if the internal backup is not usable (due to size limits), then further help can be found: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=28017

Added version of manual for more recent MySQL version 5.7 (due to GUI installation process differences).

Hello,

Ive been trying all day to get 1.7 to work for me.
1.7 Modify the ‘datadir=’ entry to reflect your chosen location.
# Path to the database root
datadir= D:\Datastore\MySQLdatafiles
Ive created the Datadir folder.. When I change the .ini file to reflect this change I can never get SWL server to connect again. Do i need to move the data folder manually?

Andy.

I pasted 1.7 from your guide in my post for reference. and SQL not SWL sorry mistake. Basically when I change the INI file SQL server stops and will not reconnect. Clearly im missing something.. Ill have another go

In 1.8 you say "the restart should not create/relocate all the data files to the new directory". Is this correct?

What are you trying to move the database or the data directory?

What database do you use?

I would have updated earlier but I forgot my password and wasnt recieving the reset email. I'm only testing at the moment so dont worry about it. I left the database/data all as default. I assume this wont be a problem and moving it is 'nice to have'. Correct me if im wrong and its a necessity.

Thank you.
