Duplicate Mails

Post by ThomasHorst » 2009-11-25 19:08

This script discards eMails wich have the same [Message-ID] in the same Download-Job.

It is useful, if you receive messages via a catchall-Account and some providers sending multiple mails according to the cc-Entry.

Have fun

Please DO NOT USE this script in the moment! Thomas is a friend of mine and today we accidentally noticed, that this script in rare cases may delete mails unintentionally. Thomas is working on a solution and is looking forward to have a solution soon.

I removed the old file.
If at first you don't succeed, bomb disposal probably isn't for you! ヅ

Can you share the script as a reference?

FYI
Thunderbird has an 'add-on' called 'remove duplicate messages'
It works a treat and looks at message content, not just GUID
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

TB has a builtin feature (not requiring an addon) - you must need to enable it

mail.server.default.dup_action set to:
  • 0 - this is the default value. It retrieves duplicate mails like normal mails.
1 - if you set the value to 1 duplicate mails will be deleted automatically once retrieved
2 - if you set the value to 2 duplicated mails will be moved right into the trash
3 - the value 3 finally marks duplicate mails as read
(I dont use it though so no idea on what criteria it used or how effective it is).
5.7 on test.
