Greetings,
I have seen more or less similar requests but I would like to be more specific
We have been using a softalk/ workgroupmail server with some great functionalities.
One of these that we frequently used due to lost/ deleted emails in client applications is the archive function.
This archive offers the possibility to search for messages on the following criteria:
- date range
- from/to local user and/or (part) of address
once the search has been completed the email(s) matching the criteria can be extracted and forwarded to a local user as per a selection.
adding such a functionality would be great..
additional note:
I have seen discussions about this being potentially illegal, I guess using this functionality or not is the administrators responsibility in the same way as the built in MS SQL server which only mat be used for non commercial purposes...
searcheable archive of incoming and outgoing messages

You can script this. Also there are 3rd party software that does archiving.
Legality depends on your jurisdiction. You'd have to research that yourself.
