HTTP trigger or callback

Post by cblaze22 » 2018-04-28 16:58

[*]

What would be simple and something that should be built in is to have a trigger or callback for failed email responses that send it to some http endpoint to remove it from a mailing list or do some sort of logic.

I know we can manually do this in the code but I believe this should be built into the interface per domain.

Is there some question that you'd like to ask in a poll?
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

Yes it is

Normally there would be a question and some answers for forum participants to vote on.
This helps guide decision making about what is needed or not.

Personally I can't see the need for this.

I use a global rule to catch all NDRs
You could use this same global rule to call some VBS in your eventhandlers.vbs that would allow you to do whatever logic you need

I personally don't believe that this should be added to general releases as it will just bloat the software. You can fork the source on github or write a script that is called from a global rule. I'm not sure what else would be / could be achieved with a http trigger or callback.

I am really not sure how this will be bloat if you added it. All the big mail services have callbacks for the clients on emails that fail, or a certain response code for the very reason to say blacklist the email or remove it from the mailing list altogether.

I really don’t know what would go in a Poll? This is a common feature in SMTP services where you can send a HTTP request to an endpoint for a certain status code with email address. That way the client calling HMailServer can remove that email.

The logic would be simple like a selection of status codes to test for, if the receiving mail server sends that back and it matches just call whatever callback URL was provided with the status code and email in say a POST request. Done.

If I knew VBscript I would do it. Is there anyone for hire in our forum to do this?
