8BITMIME after EHLO

Post by alexrossi » 2009-04-14 19:40

HI !

I would like to ask if it will be possible to add
250-8BITMIME
after EHLO on smtp.

Right now we get
EHLO 123.com
250-mail.test.com
250-SIZE
250 AUTH LOGIN

It wll be possible to get
EHLO 123.com
250-mail.test.com
250-8BITMIME
250-SIZE
250 AUTH LOGIN

We have found that some security gateways such as trendmicro / norton will not deliver mail if
250-8BITMIME is not present on SMTP connection.

Thanks
Alex

From my observations, if 8bitmime is NOT advertised when receiving incoming mail, the relaying server may elect to re-encode a message using a different Content Encoding. If that conversion is performed by a server that is not DKIM aware, this seems to result in broken DKIM signatures.
