Online help only

Post by martin » 2004-06-24 14:47

I'm thinking on skipping the .chm file that is distributed with the server and only have a online manual instead.

Why?
1) It's a pain to update the .chm file.
2) Users of a mail server likely have a connection up all the time.
3) Changes & fixes to the documentation can be made without installing a new version of the server.
4) The .chm file is very static and booooring.
5) Other users can contribute to the documentation if it's online.

Example on user contribution:
http://se.php.net/manual/en/function.imagettfbbox.php
Every subject in the manual has a "User contributed note" section were the users can give comments and feedback.

Comments?

Suggestion: Why not set-up a Wiki where users can contribute Documentation?

Online is good and if they're using hMail I would hope they have an always on connection. I know the pain too of .chm and other associated windows help files.
