suggestion: messagefilename in database

Post by stephan123 » 2010-03-25 12:45

Hi,

I have a suggestion which could solve issues with moving data-folder around and could even save a lot of disk space for tables due to removing redundancies.

As I followed some of the discussions, moving data folder from one location to another is a frequently done job, especially when migrating from one server to a new one.

My suggestion is to not save the complete path to the database like

Code: Select all

E:\hMailServer\Data\#Public\23\{238FE437-FAB3-47C3-8FAE-C4ECC8B8448E}.eml
but to strip down any redundant part and have only

Code: Select all

#Public\23\{238FE437-FAB3-47C3-8FAE-C4ECC8B8448E}.eml
in the tables.

This should not be too hard to implement because the path is saved in the ini-file. So instead of fetching the complete path from the database, the only thing to do is to prepend the path from the ini.

So, in my case, I could save 20 bytes Diskspace per Mail and I could easily move data folder around by simply changing the ini-file which is necessary anyway. This will work as long as the sructure within \Data\ remains unchanged.

What do you think? Wouldn't that be possible?

Stephan

This has already been implemented in the next major version.

If at first you don't succeed, bomb disposal probably isn't for you! ヅ
