5.7.0 Diagnose: here test local connect

Postby tester02 » 2016-05-27 20:34

Hi,

since its an upcoming feature in the alpha version (5.7.0-B2366) I couldn't find an explanation in the current documenation. When I do the diagnostic with a selected domain it gives me this error:
Test local connect
Connecting to TCP/IP address in MX records for local domain domain somename.domain....
Trying to connect to host mail.somename.domain...
Trying to connect to TCP/IP address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX on port 25.
ERROR: It was not possible to connect. Error: Could not connect to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX on port 25 since this would mean connecting to myself..
ERROR: Failed to connect to all servers.

What's intended with this feature? Because it's called "test local connect" and when the domain is local it gives the error?

Best regards

I guess that depends on what the super-secret ip address is.
IS it a local LAN address (and if so why have you hidden it) or...?

It is a strange message. Do you have some HOST file or local loopback set in your modem?

I have tested that address for you and it connects ok:

Trying to connect to host eckgold.eu...
Trying to connect to TCP/IP address 85.214.126.1 on port 25.

(out of interest, do you get the same if you are using HMS 5.6.x)?

Trying to connect to host mail.hmailserver.com...
Trying to connect to TCP/IP address 46.163.109.39 on port 25.
Received: 220 mail.hmailserver.com ESMTP.
Connected successfully.

Test: Test backup directory
Backup directory C:\MailBackup is writable.

Test: Test MX records
Trying to resolve MX records for eckgold.eu...
Host name found: mail.eckgold.eu

Test: Test local connect
Connecting to TCP/IP address in MX records for local domain domain eckgold.eu...
Trying to connect to host mail.eckgold.eu...
Trying to connect to TCP/IP address 85.214.126.1 on port 25.
Received: 220 mail.eckgold.eu ESMTP.
Connected successfully.

Test: Test message file locations
Relative message paths are stored in the database for all messages.

Test: Test IP range configuration
No problems were found in the IP range configuration.

Since it's the same maschine and configuration and therefore I came up with my initial question.

Fair enough.

So definite change between 5.6.5 and 5.7.

As 5.7 isnt even released as a beta it will be difficult to answer.

Perhaps try a direct email to Martin and ask him (but remember, given it is unreleased, he might not be in a hurry to answer). You never know.

Thanks for the report!
Since this error is not hampering in any kind I won't bother Martin with this issue and wait.

In addition now everybody else using a HMS alpha knows that there is an error and not a fault in their configuration.

Normally the first part of that is caused (in current and earlier versions) by the router not doing loopback.
One work around is to create a 'C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts' file entry for that IP address.

Is it possible that the machine with current version has such a hosts entry and the machine with the ALPHA version doesn't have that hosts entry??

ALSO, do you have a 'bind to local IP address' set in SMTP Advanced settings on the Alpha machine?
Just 'cause I link to a page and say little else doesn't mean I am not being nice.

I'm hoping he says none to all of the above. I asked him this already and he said that the working 5.6.5 and non-working 5.7 are the same machine and configuration (concluding it's a software difference).

My hostfile has no entries.

Nope, this field is left blank in both cases.

After jimimaseye asked about the diagnose of the 5.6.5 I did the following steps:
- saved settings and domains via the backup function in the 5.7
- stopped hMailServer service
- renamed hMailServer service to NewhMailServer
- installed the 5.6.5 with internal db
- restored settings and domains from the 5.7 backup -> restore
- run diagnostic
Therefore I said its the same maschine and configuration
