hMailServer 5.1, build 328 (Alpha)

Post by martin » 2009-02-03 09:22

This is an alpha. It should not be run in production systems, and you should only install it if you want to take a look at some of the new features. If you experience a serious issue with the build, I would be glad to hear about it. There are some smaller GUI problems that I'm already aware of so if you run into any small problems, please ignore them until a beta is released.

The following changes have been made:
  • The problem with users being immediately disconnected should now be resolved. (The problem depended on what IP address you were connecting from.)

That's not an error, it's a debug output. Is it related to some error you experience?

Okay. I'm changing the text for that debug message a bit to make it more clear that it isn't really an error. Also, I'm changing so that it isn't logged as often as it is now. :)

I upgraded from 5.0 b326 to 5.1a328. The upgrade seemed to go just fine.

Martin I'm the blind guy that had this same complaint when you first came out with v5.0. In the Amin GUI the left pane shows as black text on a black background when using windows high contrast #1. The right pane seems to all appear correctly but not totally sure if it is or not cause if it's not I can't see it at all.

But the biggest issue for me is since the upgrade I have yet been able to send e-mail to extenal addresses. from Squirrelmail or Thunderbird running on the same ip as the mail server. The error in Thunderbird is:

Code: Select all

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded. Unknown user. Please check the message recipients and try again.
From Squirrelmail it is

Code: Select all

Requested action not taken.mailbox unavailvable
550 Unknown user.

bigcrawdaddy,
About the colors. My mistake, again. Are you sure you had the problem in 5.0 though and not in 4.4 earlier? Anyway, in the next build, hMailServer Administrator will rely on the colors selected in the windows settings rather than making up its own. The new build will be up as soon as my build server has internet access again. The ISP is fixing a switch in the basement...

About the problem sending. This is more strange. I haven't seen this myself during my tests. Is it possible for you to enable SMTP logging and post the log from such as session here? I understand that this may be tricky or impossible without full access to hMailServer Administrator. :-\

Do you get the same when you try to send to other domains?

Are you sure you haven't added a domain named sbcglobal.net, or added sbcglobal.net as a domain name alias to one of your domains?

I get the same errors no matter what the address I'm sending to. In fact can't even send to the address I'm sending from. Maybe I should try a clean install but didn't want to have to change databases.

Is it possible for you to backup your database config and send it to me at martin@hmailserver.com? I'm guessing some option you've enabled somewhere is causing it but I don't know which. :-\

When you say backup my database info. Do you mean use the backup utility and backup my settings?

Yup. Would be good if you included the domains as well (but not the actual messages).

Martin, In this version, I think externally downloaded messages are no longer being scanned by spamassassin. Are you seeing this?

Hmm, is anti-spam enabled in the external account config?
In the external account settings, there's now options to enable Anti-spam and Anti-virus. In earlier versions, the IP range configuration was used to determine whether or not Anti-spam or Anti-virus should be run for external accounts.
I just changed for the next build so that when upgrading to 5.1 these two settings are enabled by default.
