hMailServer 5.0, build 292 (Alpha)

Post by martin » 2008-06-17 21:00

A new 5.0 alpha is now available:
http://download.hmailserver.com/dev/hMa ... 0-B292.exe

The following changes have been made:

hMailServer Administrator:
  • Administrator no longer crashes if you are trying to edit permissions for IMAP folders in an account.
Server core:
  • Queriew towards PostgreSQL are case sensitive. This caused a problem when hMailServer was searching for specific account addresses since the correct case had to be used. This issue is now solved.
  • Messages stored in Public folders are now stored in the folder \hMailServer\Data\#Public on disk. This solves the problem that public messages are deleted when the account creating the messages is removed.
  • The AWstats log is now parseable by AWstats again.

Could you explain the "Use Score from spamassassin" Check box and "Fixed Score" Box?

I couldn't find any docs on it and they don't make sense to me.

Are the shared folders functional yet? I can't seem to add one since the format changed a while back. If I try to edit permissions it tells me that I can only edit permissions on a shared folder, but I see no way to designate one as shared.

PeterK2003

There will be documentation available soon. In version 5, each spam test gives a score. If the score exceeds the threshold set in the spam setting the email will be classified as spam. When hMailServer calls SA, it can collect the score which SA has given.

GlenC,
build 291 notes wrote: * Possibility to set IMAP folders permissions are no longer available on account level. The implementation of ACL has been changed from "Shared folders" to "Public folders". This reduces the flexibility a bit but makes the feature more easy to understand, the implementation less complex and performance considerably better.
* ACL/Public folders have been redesigned from scratch.
* The IMAP folder "Public folders" is now renamed to #public to avoid naming conflict.
To create public folders, go to Settings->Protocol->IMAP settings.

Ok, I see now... was driving me crazy :)

So the dialog for permissions under accounts will be going away now? I guess that's what was throwing me is that the dialog was still there.

yeah i got the general idea but if you check the box why does the text box get enable? If you using the score from SA it doesn't make sense to set a fixed score. Or am i missing something?

No problem--i wasn't very explicit in my first post b/c i wasn't sure if it was a bug or if it was my lack of understanding and I didn't want to accuse you of writing buggy code unless i was sure--haha--thanks for the fix!

just a question martin
is it right to leave mssql compact installed if v5 were uninstalled?
i've notice this with the last 289 alpha. i've installed it , then uninstalled and the hmailserver folder&service gone, but the mssql 2005 compact nope. still remains. What about a question just to ask if wants to uninstall the db too??

not so important of course.. v5 seems very very close to beta now!!!

To be honest I hadn't tested this before this alpha so not sure how long this has not worked.
The Blocking of File Attachments isn't working.

westdam,
I thought about it but there's no way for hMailServer installation program to know whether MSSQL is used by another software in the computer. So if hMailServer simply uninstalled it, other programs may stop working. The user could be asked about it, but he wouldn't know in most cases. Generally speaking, if a program installs a system component, the uninstall program leaves the component due to the reason above. I think the same applies in this case. MSSQL CE isn't something which continues to run in the background when it isn't used, so it won't slow the computer down. :-\

Also, if I gave the user an option to uninstall the database as well, I am sure that some users would select "Uninstall" by mistake and then lose all their data. :(

bigcrawdaddy,
I just tried it and my attachment was blocked. Can you give some more info on how it isn't working?

Sorry I hadn't tested any other file type. After tring a .exe file it was blocked. So maybe it's just a .bat file issue.

I just tested with .bat and it was blocked. What client did you use to send the message? If you try it again, do you get it again then?

I did just test with OE and the same .bat file was blocked. So must be a Thunderbird thing.
Thanks

Yes, it has to do with how Thunderbird includes attachments of different types :-\ Anyway, it will be fixed in the next build.

Spamassassin Intergration is working very nicely.

Couple Things thou.

1. Seems that whitelisting doesn't work with just eMail address, spamassassin still runs and tags it. If i add the IP as well, then whitelisting works properly.

2. Is it possible to have an option to toggle on/off for routes?

3. The ability to edit the reply message. (542 Tagged as Spam by SpamAssassin) Like the other Anti-Spam rejected replys.

4. Is it possible to add the use of a whitelist email/or Ip based mysql db without scripting? or have an import feature?

5. Under Rules be great to have an action: when user sends mail, to add rcpt to whitelist if not local. (using scripting atm for this)

Thanks Martin for all your time and effort this is truely a great product!

hi Martin

I think I read some where that V5 will support clustering?
Is this the case?

DFitch,

I just tried it and it worked fine here. You do know it's the sender address which is whitelisted and not the recipient address, right?

As for your other suggestions. They are good, but I won't add new features to version 5 since I'm trying to finish that one of (there will always be more stuff to add and if I keep adding I'll never beg releasing). If you really want those things, add them as separate requests in the feature request section and people can vote for them. :)

Dan,

No, I had some ideas to include it but it was postponed. It's very complicated and it would have delayed version 5 even more (and it's already running very late..)
