hMailServer 5.0, build 290 (Alpha)

Post by martin » 2008-06-08 10:28

A new 5.0 alpha is now available:
http://download.hmailserver.com/dev/hMa ... 0-B290.exe

Following changes have been made:

hMailServer Administrator:
  • When deleting a rule action, rule window no longer closes automatically.
  • When deleting a route, Administrator no longer crashed.
  • It's now possible to add linked AD accounts again.
  • The catch-all setting in the domain settings is now moved to the Advanced tab.
  • In the status section, hMailServer now displays database name.
  • Some minor GUI adjustments have been made related to tab order.
  • When a backup is started, the backup settings are first saved. This is done to ensure that the settings the user see on the screen is actually used even if the user doesn't save the settings.
  • When deleting white list records, the list in hMailServer Adminsitrator is now refreshed immediately.
  • It's now possible to view messages in the undelivered list again.
Server core:
  • Using rules, it's now possible to specify explicitly which route should be used.
  • The IMAP Search command keyword "ON" is now implemented
  • Issue 106: SMTP: Grey listing was always enabled for alias domains.
  • If a SPF record is not found for a sub domain, hMailServer won't lookup domain at parent domain. It did this before but this causes problem and the recommendation on openspf.org is not to look up SPF records for parent domain.
  • SMTP deliverer has been made more flexible when it comes to handling of result code from recipients servers. Previously, sometimes hMailServer retried delivery even if the error was permanent.
The thing which is remaining before it will be considered beta is the complete implementation of shared folders. Shared folders will be redesigned a bit before the release of hMailServer 5 so don't bother looking at the current functionality for it too much...

Again a very neat installation of such a beautiful product :)

One small thing: under a domain when you select 'Distribution lists' you will see that the size of the list control on the right hand side is a little bit different than the others :) (Others: Accounts, Aliases and Groups)

Again; beautiful.

You mean like 2 pixels wider? Anyway, fixed that. And similar under Rules. :)

When I use the COM object within Visual Basic with a domain user to add a new user account, I do not receive an error when I'm adding the 17th user while the domain settings are set to max 10 users.

Using the Admin application there shouldn't be any error, but using the com-component there should, right?

I understand. My brother is like that too, poor guy. I went over to his house at Christmas and all the lights on his roof were the same color and facing the same direction except for one that was angled just a little bit differently. Knowing that he's a bit of a perfectionist, I came in a joked, "Hey bro, you missed a light."

He actually got a little angry, though not at me, and said: "I KNOW I spent 2 hours trying to get it to face the right way!"

The world needs people like that. :P

In hMailServer 4.x, the limitation was actually enforced in hMailServer Administrator and in PHPWebAdmin and not by the COM API. This, and the limitations which prevents users from setting up one alias and one account with the same name and similar. This was sort of a by-design design-error which I did due to the fact that I did not want to do any internal redesign in a new minor v4 build. In version 5, I have not reimplemented the same functionality in hMailServer Administrator in version 5 and instead plan to add it to the hMailServer core. So in one of the future builds (maybe the next alpha) the COM API will start to "throw an exception" if you exceed the limitations set up.

Ok, thanks.

I shouldn't rely on whether the api will catch these sorts of errors, but needs to check it myself, but this is not implemented yet in my software  .

Dukeman,
In build 291 which is now available, the COM API throws an exception if you're trying to exceed the limits set up in the domain. :)
