someone.@domain.com will work but not with quotes in the local part even though its not strictly invalid as per the RFC. Its just not advisable so don't do it. I've never come across anyone using email address that requires a quoted string. Avoid them and you won't encounter problems with other mail...

usually its best to use contains and not equals becasue the address could be in a few different formats.

look at hmailserver.ini file in your hmail bin directory. I think it will be in there if anywhere. Infact it doesn't appear to have options for SSL to connect the database but there may be undocumented ones that I don't know about. It is probably using SHA256 to encrypt the passwords in the database...

Also, you could reduce your "Minutes to defer deliver attempts " to 5 minutes just in case senders first smtp retry is set to less than 10 minutes and if that fails then second and subsequent retries to 4 or more hours later.

With IIS you should use the microsoft provided version of PHP and NOT the one from php.net or elsewhere. The microsoft version of PHP does a lot of the setup configuration for PHP with IIs which the other versions don't.
