Why your gateway IP address?
It obviously isn't NATting, and is likely doing some mail inspection.
This also means that you probably can't do SSL or StartTLS connections

There may be a security issue there (despite the intent).

How about you add a non-descript header to ALL messages using OnDeliverMessage

And then look for messages with that header in the queue using your scheduled task

messages without that header won't have been attempted

Just test via IMAP on Thunderbird or another email client please, to see if the mail is actually there twice

Using IMAP won't impact on what your POP3 clients do unless you move or delete any messages

The issue I have is that in this scenario the customer has disabled pop and IMAP and told me that they cannot use those protocol and that I should use https to connect to office 365. THis is an outlook IMAP thing.
Outlook is really terrible at IMAP, and seems to get worse with each iteration

TRy another mail client, or a webmail and see if the problem persists.

Sure you can merge sent folders, or just move all of the contents of one into the the other, then delete the empty one

You should change the settings in each mail client so that this doesn't happen again though.

You can also catch messages with a global rule that looks for 'delivery attempts' and can delete messages with that.

I use that to trigger 'been trying an hour and not delivered yet' type emails to the sender of the message

Are you using the ClamWin or ClamAV connector in hMailserver? Note that the external virus scan is different again. They behave differently, and you should never use the ClamWin Adapter on a busy server I have previously used the ClamAV adapter, but currently don't connect Clam to hMailserver at all...

I agree, hMailserver still serves my needs brilliantly, people demanding instant TLS 1.3 support....wow!!! Half the internet doesn't support TLS 1.3 at this stage...even Windows 10 to my knowledge still has no build-in support for it (yet), and TLS 1.2 and lower are still suitable for most user cas...
