SOLVED in B249 !

After upgrading hMailServer to 4.3.1 (B249) Evolution client (Ubuntu Edgy version) suddently began to work without any changes in Ubuntu Edgy or Evolution.

Probably some of the changes in B249 have done the trick, I suspect it was bug C69.

Before anything goes further make a backup of you hmailserver folder. I always do option 1 and for me has worked perfectly. Installer takes care of stopping default mysql and hmailserver services. Don't know what happens if you don't have default mysql. After install the services are launched again....

I can't help you with the PPM but I used it with no problems.

The important problem is that ASSP only works with Perl 5.8.1 or newer since 1.1.2b and I think, so before you go farther please think of installing 5.8.1 or newer.

Hmailserver has never crashed here with 330+ day experience. Most of the restarts are due to those Windows 2003 updates that need a complete system restart every 5 to 10 weeks (I still can't believe Microsoft has not found a way to do those things in a more convenient way).

In answer to your question about ASSP, probably ASSP can do the job for you, but it will always do the tests against the IP of the SMTP conversation, nothing about email IP headers that can be easily spoofed or faked.

Configure your Outlook to talk to ASSP, ASSP to talk to hMailServer and hMailServer to talk to your ISP to send external mail. This will work.

That's the reason why we switched to Thunderbird 1.5. We use IMAP and we got tired of missing some missformated emails, that in fact where just not missing, they simply weren't listed in Outlook Express. When switching to Thunderbird 1.5, they all apeared in the inbox as pending new messages.
