Re: Strip the IP and (host-)name of the original sender

And also it should work for non-local users too. I don't rely on it in any way. I think it is just a good, somewhat privacy focused, feature, witch is missing in that great peace of software, that other servers offer, which I can't name, because I don't know stuff. But thinking of it more, I don't r...

Re: strip off first senders IP and PC-Name?

many, many mailing lists don't show this info (Some of this spam, some is not) Many messages have a single received from header Perhaps the local IP part can be fixed by playing with your loopback and NAT settings on that device Machine name still comes through Thanks for looking! But this wouldn't...

Wrong. He definitely SHOULD be using those settings. They are the optimum (especially with external to external deliveries disabled). It is locked down from spammers by authentication. Thanks for bringing this up. I changed my config too and now the log looks differently, when somebody is knocking,...

Strip the IP and (host-)name of the original sender

Like described viewtopic.php?f=7&t=35385, other servers have an option to strip above mentioned personal data from emails they send. This would be a nice option to have in hmailserver too.

Re: strip off first senders IP and PC-Name?

Well, people also black-out their licence plates on their cars when posting pictures ... With good reasons. I use my mail server where I could use some "trashmail" service, but they are sometimes blocked and stuff. Not every email have to contain "personal" information about me. And also the...

Re: strip off first senders IP and PC-Name?

It is not a risk, although it might not be an internal IP, if I am outside or there is an external user. Also the PC-Name could be potentially embarrassing. I have read that most server will strip that information anyway and the first hop in the header will be the sending mailserver itself. From you...

Re: strip off first senders IP and PC-Name?

Some more privacy. I also read that most other servers would remove that by default.

strip off first senders IP and PC-Name?

Hi Guys. I am a novice user of hmailserver, lets say an absolute beginner. I noticed that in sent emails there is still the original senders (my) IP-Address and computer name shown. I found no option to disable that. Can that be done only by scripts in hmailserver? And if so, is there an easy script...

Re: script would check the first mx record and only if that is down, would open Port 25 on the backup server

Or, use this: Hell no. I don't want to use any third party. My first mx is at home, the second mx is at my vps, also hmail. At home I have a pfSense with pfBlocker, but not at my vps. So some extra security I wouldn't mind, although I never had spam in the first place, so I am hardly know what I am...

Re: script would check the first mx record and only if that is down, would open Port 25 on the backup server

Easy peasy  Sry, updated the port in post above. I really like my idea :D , that the second sever is always on and the script is just scanning port 25 of the first server. Then, if it is not reachable, the script would open port 25 of the firewall of the second server. If server one comes ...

Probably would to

Code: Select all

PS C:\> tnc www.shellhacks.com -p 25
But again, I have no clue about powershell scripting or scripting in general.

If I remember correct, hmailserver has a naming issue. Mine look like this and that works fine.

For port testing, you can use this tool http://www.portchecktool.de.
No, there are easy powershell commands that can do that for you. But someone would have to create a full script to do everything what has to be done, to have a turn key solution.

You would need to run that script on the backup mx, and that would be independent of hMailserver

On Linux I would use 'monit' to do that
True, but my backup mx would still be a hmailserver, because reasons (I have no clue about linux). 8)
So I would be interested in a Win-solution.

Re: script would check the first mx record and only if that is down, would open Port 25 on the backup server

Alternatively ... Interesting. I had hmail server running for years and had no spam at all, but I am not using it much anyway. And I like your suggestion, thank you for that, but would prefer something more clean, like actually open (and closing) ports only if needed or similar. I thought maybe som...

script would check the first mx record and only if that is down, would open Port 25 on the backup server

First, I have no clue about scripting, for hmail or in general and I don't think you can do that with hmail scripting but I ask anyway: Wouldn't it be nice, to have a backup email server only running, or "opened", if the first mx is actually down? I read here about spammers targeting the last server...

Re: Minor problem with the smtp server name

Although some sending servers WILL check the SSL certifciate name matches the rNDS Ok, that's new to me. I always tought only the hostname in the mx record is checked against the certificate. I am just a novice user, but to have a matching cert is not a problem I think, mine is even a wildcard. Alt...

Re: Minor problem with the smtp server name

And off topic slightly, but was the VPS actually cheaper than getting business grade internet at home? Hello mattg, my idea is to have as few data as possible outside my own hmailserver installation at home. So even the vps counts against that. LE, DMARK and SPF and even DANE, I managed to set that...

No sending mailserver will check if the rDNS is correct. Just a receiving mailserver will do that.

Generally the rDNS is mostly important for sending mail.
That is true so it is not as important, but still not looking perfect.
E.g. if I do the smtp-test on mxtoolbox.com:
SMTP Banner Check Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner
That is why I am asking.

Minor problem with the smtp server name

Thanks to hmailserver, I run my own, personal mailserver at home (behind a pfSense). I only get a residential IP-address. So I got myself a cheap VPS, installed OpenVPN on it and route my mails from home with pfSense out to the internet over that vps... I configured rDNS for that IP-address and put ...

Bind to local IP address (IPv4 and IPv6)

Hi there.

Under SMTP settings > Advanced > Bind to local IP address,

I would like to be able to bind to one IPv4 and one IPv6 address instead of just one or the other.

Thank you for reading this.
