Is it me or does it appear Dyn.Com is using hMailserver as their messaging server? ;-) Which is fine with me since all my stuff is run through them. They do have great service for a reasonable price.Hopefully they donate to the cause... :-)

Trying out Dynu.com as the old provider is expensive. Transferred domain for $11 and now have free DNS. Old place was $60/yr. Using Dynamic DNS services. They also have a number of email services such as outbound/inbound relay. I use AWS for outbound (free) but now use Dynu.com for Inbound ($10/yr)....

As a side note.... AWS SES Email Receive also supports IP filtering, Spam filtering and Virus Protection. I tried to follow the advice from above. I added the 127.0.0.1 IP. The IP added by HMS is the IP that tries to logon to HMS with a bad PW. I just cannot understand why all of a sudden this began. For years the offending IP was added only once. Just a pain to delete the same IP 6 to 12 times.

I noticed multiple autoban entries for the same IP starting with build 5.6.7.B2405. We use SA and nothing has changed (as far as SA goes). I have employed the advice suggested here and will see what happens.

All defaults, latest SP's, etc. All up to date, use Spam Assassin and MySQL, etc. Run Task Scheduler every hour on the Data dir for BU and that is all I can think of that is different. Only other oddity (?) is it is all running in a Citrix Zen Server VM 6.5.

Tell me why I am so special? Win 2008 Data R2. Last 2 builds. The previous Official release (last public release) fixed the problem I reported before (same). The pee-releases are the problem.

While on the topic, HMS is once again copying default script files into the Scripts dir and over writting existing (older) files -- confirmed. Actually been doing it the last 2 versions I believe.

Just confirmed the existing scripts are overwritten when reinstall with old (default) scripts in the Utilities dir. Was fixed in 5.6.5, but slipped in 5.6.6.

IMHO, I will take a BIG log file over a nasty guessing PW's any day of the week. I get nervous when I see this no matter how good the PW's appear.

OK, a month later... I "love" having AUTH OFF on Port 25!!! It is saving me a "lot" of work to try and keep the nastiness out! I kind of see it as a "honey pot" situation. The trolls are defaulting to port 25 since it is open. They try to do a Brute Force attack most times and are obviously stopped....

"They" are still not my buddies! ;-) Even more of a reason to add them to the IP Range list to keep them out. Most are port 25 but there are also a number of "multi-port" login attempts -- all at the same time. Just trying to do my duty and keep the nastiness away from the hen house...

Still early but with AUTH OFF I would rather have large logs than have the possibility of some JA accidentally getting a PW right. If I find some real abuse I will put the IP in the outside firewall. I am all for non-public ports but then how do outside entities get email to you -- i.e: other ISP's???

Ah you gave me a good idea RvdH! I looked at my phone and had 2 copies of "server monitor" on it (free and paid). I had upgraded one (free?) a day or so ago. Like you said it was using a FQDN inside the Gateway and that "may" of been the culprit. But how it did not show up on Wire Shark, etc, blows ...

Yes, I know, and I do ban them at the firewall when I see this in a log. I could not help myself. I saw this line above from Soren and smiled "Once you ban an IP address you will NOT see the IP address in ANY log until the ban expire" ;-) OK, I am bad, but I got a smile out of it... :roll:
