I have been using hmailserver and monitoring this forum for over 10-years. And I have never seen this scenario before.

This smacks of interference and tinkering with the database and the consequences of doing so.

No, it's a mail server. What you need is a mail client. Clients have search facilities.

Or allow windows explorer to index the data directory and use that. (It's quite useful).

That's a dangerous thing to do. Just because a client requests a download it doesn't mean ory was received by the client to the point that the user can see the message. 'run function' calls from a rule calls individual 'sub' scripts. The default subs are always called based on predefined condifions/events of a message communication.

Because you have this:

therefore you are actioning the function against every message.

Doubt it. More like you are unauthorised to send to them.

The remote server issued the error and their chosen code - search/ask them why that remote server (service host) issued the response.

You should log it in Github. I think it should still be loopcount checking which should be the default option when forwarding something to itself (which in this case it is).
