Shouldn't he turn on POP3/IMAP logging to see if any e-mail client is deleting e-mails? That one week thing is a bit too much like the default settings of "delete after 7 days".

I installed SpamAssasin on a tiny 128MB VMWare virtual machine on the same server and it is chugging along quite happily ever after. Much better that the "native" spamassasin solutions.I memory is not a premium you can try it.

Maybe you need to add a range with just the IP of the server and allow it to send e-mail to externals. You maybe connecting TO localhost, but if you check the logs you will see the FROM is not localhost.

Sorry to report but there are some labels in latest stable (4.4 - Build 270) that still display garbage during setup. That is for Greek.
The UI too is a mess. And although it is as wonderful as software can get, when I recommend it to fellow admins, this UI thing does not inspire confidence :wink:

Since it is the providers network, and they do the routing for the users then they can block whatever they like outside their network and allow all inside it.
For example through my current provider at home I can user port 25 on my
server but not SMTP over SSL...go figure...

Well I would too, and I do, but to use SPF with -all they must use MY server as SMTP.
There are cases though that providers block outgoing SMTP apart from their own servers, so the user is forced to use the provider's SMTP. And I can't go adding in my SPF records each and every possible provider :(

It can be quite useful. It can be a real P.I.T.A. if you like graylisting but trying to whitelist non-RFC compliant mail-servers or mail server farms such as GMail. For now I just browse the logs/copy/paste but I guess it can get better :D
