Re: hMailServer future
I really do not want this project to die and while I have experience as product manager for a Windows mail server (which is long dead), I don't want be a product manager for another one. I would say: hMailServer should always be open source hMailServer should always be a Windows mail server (because...

Re: Removing x86 support in 5.7
Definitely dump x86 but I'm still running hmail on 2008 R2 server (mostly because I don't like 2012+ server flavors although I haven't tried 2019 yet).

Re: hMailServer 5.7
Is the MySQL drop in replacement MariaDB (https://mariadb.org/) compatible with 5.7? (Either the 5.5.x or 10.x branch?)
How does 5.7 handle upgrading from 5.6.x (with the old database stuff)?

btw I'm not the police; I don't care how you use hmailserver (as long as you aren't a spammer - then I care). you do realise that the built in MS SQL CE is intended only for very small home installations, and it is against the EULA of that product to use this database in a commercial environment. I physically stop and start the service (rather than pause it) in my script to prevent this happening, and the service is offline for about 30 seconds whilst it does an MIRROR update of the files and takes a dump of MySQL database. Re: [BUG] Backup Script Crashing Periodically
I've written a batch file to trigger hMailServer backups and recover if the backup process has crashed on the prior run as a workaround. I thought I'd share it in case other people are running into this issue. The script, on my system (Windows Server 2008 R2), is called "backup_hmailserver.bat". It'...

Re: [BUG] Backup Script Crashing Periodically
There still seems to be an issue with this crashing periodically. Fortunately, it's not occurring very often. Re: [BUG] Backup Script Crashing Periodically
Hmm I don't think this works.
wscript/cscript returns IMMEDIATELY after issuing Call oApp.BackupManager.StartBackup() so oApp.Start occurs right away and doesn't "lock it" for the duration of the backup job.

Re: [BUG] Backup Script Crashing Periodically
Solution is to pause the mailserver during backup. Following mods to startbackup.vbs will do that. i.e. pause mail delivery (oApp.Stop) and resume (oApp.Start) either side of actual backup without actually shutting down hmailserver service. I think that's a great idea really. Archiving an in-use fi...

If it's all going to be local only, it's a lot simpler. You don't need to worry about port 25 inbound/outbound outside of your LAN at all. You're quite right, 5.6. Here's a log entry, I've redacted the domain name and user name. This may not be the root cause, I just noticed when it crashes, it does not clean up the DataBackup folder. Support for emailReg.org White List RBL?
There's a service now doing a 'whitelist' RBL called emailReg. Information is here http://www.emailreg.org/index.cgi?p=usage While I'm not terribly thrilled that to get ON the list you need to jump through hoops and pay some money every year, it would be cool if I could at least use it as a whitelist.

Re: Specify DNS NameServer to be used by HMailServer
I'd like the *option* to be able to specify hMail to use a specific DNS. I have to use Windows DNS internally on my network (Active Directory Domain) and sometimes I don't think Windows DNS does a great job with root lookups. I'd much rather point hMailServer at a machine running BIND or my ISP DNS ...

The machines being sent to are not under my control.
It looks like you were correct though, after a delay (24 hour?) all hosts seem to be accepting e-mail from either WAN.
Thanks!
