Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

Ok, i understand then.

I really appreciate you working through the issue with me. I found it odd that local to local applied even to messages which left the server completely and came back. Now that we have gone through this process i understand why you have it classified as such.

Thanks again!

Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

exactly... BUT the email left the server and was forwarded back... which technically isnt local to local as i understand it.

Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

:D I think that im not communicating whats going on. the important thing is i turned off local to local and stopped getting the error message even though i was sending email to a non local address. I guess we consider this CASE CLOSED

Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

i think that error message is technically correct but misleading because the reason xxx@chartermi.net cant be reached is because the forward didnt complete to yyy@tmstechnologies.com... because it had to authenticate (mta32.charter.net #5.2.0 smtp; 530 SMTP authentication is required.). And i think ...

Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

what i think is happening is that hmail see the sender as xxx@tmstechnolgoies.com and the receiver as yyy@tmstechnologies.com and says... this is local and trys to authenticate when Local to Local is setup... but the issue is that it is a forward not a local to local. So the error message is from th...

Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

The full setup is this:

Outlook ---> exchange server ---> pop3 exchange ---> hmail --> chartermi.net (externial) forwarding --> hmail --> pop3 exchange --> exchange --> Outlook

Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

My question is why would hmail try to authenticate an email that had totally left the server and technically isnt "local to local"... its simply a forward back to hmail. Here is the path: tmstechnologies.com --> chartermi.net --> tmstechnologies.com to me... local to local would be tmstechnologies.c...

Re: I dont know if this is a bug but.....

hamil has the domain tmstechnologies.com. I was sending something from my email address xxx@tmstechnologies.com to xxx@chartermi.net which forward to yyy@tmstechnologies.com. When local to local is checked i get this error. Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: ...

Martin - That is the conclusion i am going up with as well. Thanks for confirming it. Can you post a little more information? What version of hmail server? What is the situation? What antispam settings do you have configured and are you using any other spam filters besides the ones build into hmail?

Re: Error Log

Just an update. I have gone 6 hours without a problem. I guess the fix for this scenario is to directly edit the database. I will check the log tomorrow and post my findings.

* 4/17/08 - The problem has been resolved by editing the database. It has been almost a week without problem.

I found the space in the table hm_accounts under the column accoutforwardaddress. This did not show up in the hmail admin form. I dont know why... I have fixed them manually in the database and will let you know if the error goes away.
