I've run both the current stable and the v5 alpha on it. The only issues I've found so far are with connecting to stand-alone SQL servers. That seems to be a problem with with 2008 though, and not with hMailServer.

Do you use a log parser to track what is rejecting what? I'm trying to find a good way to check what lists are rejecting anything. So far I do a "Find" on the word "rejected" but there's got to be a more automated way.

I was reading an article the other day on slashdot saying that IPv4 is going to run out of addresses around 2010...forcing IPv6 to come into play. The same thing has been being said since before 2000, usually about two years out. That doesn't mean it won't happen, just that it's like the old story ...

Provided that you have things set to not allow SMTP without authentication, the easiest solution is to have the user change their password.

I use a similar method to see what sites violate their "privacy agreement." With a little scripting, you might be able to place a valid return address in the email itself. Unfortunately, when it comes to scripting, I'm part of the 98% that knows just enough to be dangerous and not enough to be useful.

MySQL has some issues with Server 2008, and I'd assume the same issues with Vista. If the firewall is open to port 3306 (or whatever you're using for MySQL) then you're having the same problem I have. In my case I get that error no matter what I install to use MySQL, so I assume it's a MySQL error.

To me, if one blocks a single message once a year that the others don't, it's worth keeping the rbl running on hMS for me. A higher volume server may not feel the same way. You have three choices on the external database. You use MSSQL, MySQL, and once v5 comes out, you'll be able to use Postgres. Apparently on the Administration Panel, under "Status," if you go the "Server Warnings" box and select a warning and then click the "show" button, it pops up another box that doesn't have a way of being closed other than hitting the enter key.
